The Boston Bruins have announced that forward David Backes has been diagnosed with diverticulitis.

Diverticulitis is a digestive disease in which pouches within the large bowel wall become inflamed. It usually heals on its own and rarely requires surgical intervention. Backes will be re-evaluated in three-to-four weeks and might be worth dropping for someone on your waiver wire.

Taylor Hall found the back of the net in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Hall has now picked up at least one point in each of his last 19 games. The Devils forward picked up the puck in his own end, skated up the right side and beat Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky with a shot he probably should have stopped. Hall finished the game with a plus-1 rating, five shots on goal and one blocked shot in 21:22 of ice time. He isn't a Hart Trophy favorite, but his name has started coming up in the conversation lately. Nico Hischier registered the assist on New Jersey's only goal.
Feb 20 - 10:31 PM

Frederik Andersen turned aside all 40 shots he faced in Tuesday's win over the Florida Panthers.

The Leafs got a goal from James van Riemsdyk with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first period and that's all the offense they needed. Andersen has been incredible of late, as he's won five of his last six outings. He now owns a 30-16-4 record with a 2.66 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage this season. Andersen will continue to be a strong number one goalie in most standard fantasy leagues.
Feb 20 - 10:18 PM

Darcy Kuemper will get the start in Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Kings.

He has a 9-1-3 record with a 2.04 goals-against-average and a .934 save percentage this season. Kuemper has won each of his last four decisions and he's given two goals or fewer in each of those victories.
Feb 20 - 7:33 PM

Juuse Saros will get the start in Tuesday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

The move isn't too surprising considering Pekka Rinne played against Ottawa last night. Saros has a 5-5-5 record with a 2.41 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage this season.
Feb 20 - 7:11 PM

Updating an earlier item, Brent Burns will be fine to play Tuesday night.

Burns sat out the last 16:35 of the third period Sunday with the Sharks winning 5-0, but he was back on the ice for the morning skate Tuesday and he will play against the Blues. "Had the score not been what it was, I would guess that he probably would have battled through," coach Pete DeBoer said. "It just made sense in all our parts to do the right thing considering the situation."
Feb 20 - 2:42 PM

Erik Gudbranson has signed a three-year contract extension with Vancouver.

Gudbranson's new deal will have an average annual value of $4 million. "Erik is an important part of our team and provides a physical element to our blueline," said GM Jim Benning in a statement. "His leadership qualities help us as we continue to integrate younger players in our lineup. He is a quality person, a great teammate, outstanding in the community and we are excited to have him as part of our team moving forward." Gudbranson has four points, 99 hits and 64 blocks in 41 games this season.
Feb 20 - 1:01 PM

Boston has acquired Nick Holden from the New York Rangers in exchange for Rob O'Gara and a 2018 third-round pick.

Holden can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He has three goals and 12 points in 55 games this campaign. Holden will provide the Bruins with some additional depth on the back end. He posted career highs in 2016-17 with 11 goals and 34 points in 80 contests.
Feb 20 - 12:30 PM

Alex Lyon will start for Philadelphia Tuesday versus Montreal.

Newly-acquired netminder Petr Mrazek practiced with the team in the morning and he will serve as the backup goaltender. He will probably start Thursday against Columbus. Lyon picked up his first NHL win Sunday when he entered the game in relief for an injured Michal Neuvirth.
Feb 20 - 12:02 PM

Mike Green will not return from an upper-body injury on Tuesday night.

Green participated in the morning skate, but said afterward that he wouldn't play against Nashville. He is eyeing Thursday's match versus Buffalo for a return to the fold.
Feb 20 - 11:25 AM

Wayne Simmonds will be out of action for 2-3 weeks because of an upper-body injury.

Simmonds had appeared in all 59 games this season, while recording 20 goals and 37 points. His injury explains why Philadelphia called up Oskar Lindblom from the minors on Monday night.
Feb 20 - 10:51 AM

Michal Neuvirth (lower body) will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks.

Neuvirth was injured on Feb. 18 against the New York Rangers. The Flyers acquired Petr Mrazek from Detroit on Monday night because Brian Elliott is also out with a long-term injury.
