Latest Headlines

Antti Niemi will get the start in Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Niemi made a start earlier this season, but he was pulled after just 10 minutes in an ugly loss to Chicago. He's not a very steady fantasy option when he's between the pipes. Niemi has a 0-1-0 record with a 25.90 goals-against-average and a .692 save percentage. Those numbers will obviously get a lot better.

Cam Talbot (upper body) has been taken off the injured reserve list.

Now that Talbot's healthy, Edmonton plans to use him on Saturday versus Minnesota. It will be his first game since Nov. 28.
Dec 15 - 1:34 PM

Mika Zibanejad (concussion) has been ruled out for Friday and Saturday's games.

That's to be expected given that Zibanejad hasn't resumed practicing yet. The hope is that he'll skate with the Rangers on Monday and they'll go from there.
Dec 15 - 1:09 PM

Chad Johnson will be the Sabres' starting goaltender on Friday.

Johnson is getting in his first start since he allowed four goals on 28 shots on Dec. 2. He has a 1-5-2 record, 3.64 GAA, and .883 save percentage in 11 contests this season.
Dec 15 - 1:06 PM

Marc-André Fleury made 24 saves on 25 shots in a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.

Fleury was sharp against his former team on Thursday, recording his fourth win for the season. He's missed a ton of time due to a concussion. His record is now 4-1-1 with a 2.13 GAA and a .934 save percentage.
Dec 15 - 12:48 AM

Nikolaj Ehlers scored a goal in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Ehlers' power play tally at the 5:35 mark of the third period cut Winnipeg's deficit to 4-1, but that's as close as they'd come to tying the game. The Jets forward has now found the back of the net in four straight games. He has 15 goals and 10 assists in 32 games this season. Tyler Myers and Bryan Little picked up the assists on the Jets' only goal.
Dec 15 - 12:48 AM

Patrick Kane scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

The 'Hawks have struggled at different times this season, but they came up with one of their best performances of 2017-18 on Thursday. Kane registered an assist on Nick Schmaltz's first-period goal that gave the Blackhawks a 3-0 lead at the time. He then added one of his own in the second period to extend his team's lead to 4-0. Kane finished the game with a plus-2 rating and three shots on goal in 16:43 of ice time. The 29-year-old has accumulated five points in his last three contests. He's up to 12 goals and 32 points in 32 games this season. Vinnie Hinostroza, Tommy Wingels and Michal Kempny also found the back of the net for Chicago.
Dec 15 - 12:45 AM

Alex Stalock stopped all 28 shots he faced in Thursday's 2-0 win over the Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs didn't have Auston Matthews in the lineup, but that doesn't take away from Stalock's performance in this game. The Wild will need their backup goaltender to come up with more big performances while starter Devan Dubnyk recovers from his injury. Stalock has a 5-3-1 record with a 2.61 goals-against-average and a .916 save percentage. He's been victorious in each of Minnesota's last three games. He's worth a short-term add in most fantasy leagues.
Dec 15 - 12:36 AM

Juuse Saros made 46 saves in a 4-0 shutout victory over the Edmonton Oilers Thursday night.

Saros recorded his second career shutout on Thursday. The Oilers scored seven goals on Columbus earlier this week but were firing blanks on the Predators despite racking up 22 shots in the first period. Saros's record improves to 3-3-1 with a 2.95 GAA and a .911 save percentage.
Dec 15 - 12:21 AM

Kevin Roy picked up a pair of goals in Thursday's 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.

Both of Roy's goals came in the third period and they were scored just under three minutes apart. He finished the night with a plus-2 rating, two shots on and two hits in 16:11 of ice time. Roy has now found the back of the net three times in his last two games. He's up to six goals and one assist in 16 games this season. Andrew Cogliano also scored for the Ducks.
Dec 15 - 12:16 AM

Johnny Gaudreau scored his 13th goal of the season in a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

Gaudreau scored his first goal since Dec. 2, which tied the game in the third period. The Flames opened the scoring with a goal from Michal Frolik in the first period, but it wasn't enough. Gaudreau had 13 goals and 39 points in 32 games this season.

Tomas Plekanec scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 2-1 overtime win over the New Jersey Devils.

Linemate Charles Hudon won a puck-battle along the boards against three Devils players before dishing it over to Plekanec, who beat Cory Schneider in the extra frame. The goal was the veteran's first in 17 contests. Plekanec now has four goals and 14 points in 32 games. Head coach Claude Julien still relies on him to play heavy defensive minutes, but it's become abundantly clear that Plekanec doesn't have much left in the tank offensively. Andrew Shaw also scored for the Canadiens in this one.
