The Ottawa Senators have dealt Dion Phaneuf and Nate Thompson to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Marian Gaborik and Nick Shore.

The Senators will also retain 25 percent of Phaneuf's salary. Phaneuf was pulled from the Senators-Penguins game tonight in order to facilitate a trade to Los Angeles. The veteran defenseman has 16 points in 52 games this season.

Corey Crawford (concussion) will play between the pipes Thursday night.

It's Crawford's first game since Dec. 23, 2017. While rust is naturally a concern, Crawford is a vital part of the Blackhawks when he's healthy. He had a 2.27 GAA and .929 save percentage in 28 contests in 2017-18 before he was injured.
Oct 18 - 12:51 PM

Dustin Byfuglien (upper body) is good to return on Thursday.

Byfuglien practiced Thursday morning in a regular jersey, so that's not surprising. He missed two games due to the injury.
Oct 18 - 12:44 PM

Scott Darling (lower body) is getting very close to returning.

Darling hasn't been given the green light to play, but he appears to be upbeat. "Whenever they let me," he said about when he'll make his return. He hasn't been able to play yet this season.
Oct 18 - 12:38 PM

Matt Murray will start in Thursday's game against Toronto.

It will be Murray's first start since suffering a concussion, though he did serve as the backup goaltender on Saturday. He has a 5.45 GAA and .831 save percentage in two games this season.
Oct 18 - 12:36 PM

Ryan Callahan (shoulder) has declared himself good to go for Thursday's game.

It will be Callahan's first contest of the 2018-19 campaign. He had five goals and 18 points in 67 games last season. Adam Erne is likely to be a healthy scratch as a result of Callahan drawing into the lineup.
Oct 18 - 12:10 PM

Tyler Toffoli skated on the Kings' top line during Wednesday's practice.

Toffoli was alongside Anze Kopitar and Alex Iafallo. Kings coach John Stevens said after practice that he liked how the Kings looked during the practice, so don't be surprised if that is the top unit for Thursday's game. Toffoli has a goal and four points in six games this season.
Oct 18 - 10:09 AM

Tanner Pearson might be a healthy scratch on Thursday.

Pearson appeared to skate as an extra during Wednesday's practice. He only has an assist in six games this season and the Kings have dropped their last two contests, so the timing makes sense if Kings coach John Stevens does decide to scratch Pearson. "We need something to change, right?" Stevens said. "We changed the lines a little bit, hoping to get some good energy and some of those young guys get an opportunity to help us with their skill level and speed and competitiveness [that] they bring. I thought it was a good look for us today."
Oct 18 - 10:08 AM

Johnny Gaudreau wasn't allowed to complete Wednesday's game after he was removed by a concussion spotter.

It was due to a hit Gaudreau absorbed from Charlie McAvoy midway through the third period. Gaudreau initially stayed in the game, but left on the order of a concussion spotter. It wasn't immediately known what results followed. "Belks (Flames trainer Kent Kobelka) comes down and says, ‘Johnny’s gotta go. The spotters have called for him.’ That’s all I know," Flames coach Bill Peters said. "Hopefully it’s nothing. Hopefully, it’s minor. But we’ll see." We'll list Gaudreau as day-to-day for now, but as Peters said, hopefully this proves to be nothing.

Patrice Bergeron recorded a goal and an assist in Wednesday night’s 5-2 loss to the Flames.

The 33-year old center has now amassed six goals and 13 points in Boston’s first six games of the 2018-19 season. It was his fifth consecutive multi-point game and has only been held off the scoresheet once so far this season. He is a must-start in all fantasy formats.
Oct 18 - 12:34 AM

The Anaheim Ducks have signed Nick Ritchie to a three-year contract.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the deal has an average annual value of $1.533 million. Finally, this contract dispute is over. Ritchie held out of training camp and the start of the regular season because the two sides couldn't come to terms on a new contract. This was always going to be a difficult negotiation for the 22-year-old because he simply didn't have any leverage. Ritchie had 10 goals and 27 points in 76 games last season. He has a lot to prove this season.
Oct 17 - 10:25 PM

Chris Kreider scored a goal and an assist during Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals.

Kreider picked up the primary assist on Mika Zibanejad's goal that gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead early in the first period. He also tied the game at three with a power-play tally with under 10 minutes remaining in the third frame. The Rangers' comeback eventually fell short, as Caps defender Matt Niskanen scored the winner in the extra period. Kreider finished the game with a plus-1 rating, six shots on goal and one hit in 17:07 of ice time. The 27-year-old has scored in back-to-back games. He's up to four goals and two assists in seven games this season.
