Tyson Jost will play on Colorado's first line during Thursday's game against the Blue Jackets.

Jost will skate with Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, which should give him a significant fantasy boost for at least one night. The 19-year-old has seven goals and 17 points in 49 games this season.

John Tavares scored a pair of goals during Friday's 5-3 preseason win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Tavares' first goal gave the Maple Leafs a 3-1 lead just under four minutes into the opening frame. He then added an empty-netter in the final minute of regulation. Tavares was the biggest free-agent acquisition of the off-season and he should be able to light it up with his new team. The 28-year-old had 37 goals and 84 points in 82 games with the Islanders last season. Expect Tavares to be a point-per-game player in Toronto this season.

Jaccob Slavin picked up a goal and two assists in Friday's 5-1 win over the Washington Capitals.

Slavin set up first-period goals by Valentin Zykov and Jordan Staal before adding one of his own on the man-advantage in the third frame. Slavin finished the night with a plus-2 rating, one shot on goal and one hit in 23:41 of ice time. The 24-year-old is one of the more underrated defensemen in the league. He had 30 points in 82 games last season.

Mike Green is fighting a disease that's attacking his liver.

Green had been dealing with fatigue issues that led to the Red Wings' doctors telling him to stay off the ice while the problem was investigated further. They now have more information, but the next step for Green will be to see an infectious disease specialist. There isn't a timetable for his recovery yet.
Sep 21 - 3:16 PM

Loui Eriksson has sustained a bone bruise in his leg.

Eriksson is regarded as week-to-week as a result, so his availability for the start of the season is very much in question. He had 10 goals and 23 points in 50 contests last season.
Sep 21 - 11:16 AM

Ty Rattie had two goals and five points in Thursday's 7-3 preseason win over Winnipeg.

Rattie now has eight points in two exhibition games, playing primarily on a line with Connor McDavid. While exhibition statistics have to be taken with a grain of salt, the main takeaway is that Oilers coach Todd McLellan is happy with how Rattie is playing with McDavid. "We’d like to keep that line (McDavid and crew) together and they had a helluva night but in all fairness the Jets’ team we’ll see Sunday in Winnipeg will be a little bit different," said McLellan. McDavid also likes Rattie, who he credited with getting the puck into McDavid's and fellow linemate Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' hands, which is something the superstar noted isn't an easy thing to do. If Rattie can stick with those two, then this could be a big season for him.
Sep 21 - 10:15 AM

Reilly Smith scored a goal and three assists in a 7-2 blowout preseason win over the Los Angeles Kings Thursday night.

Smith scored his lone goal of the night in the opening period, capping off a 3-0 start for the Golden Knights. The winger also assisted on goals from William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault. Smith and the Golden Knights will look to prove their debut season was no fluke this year. Smith had a 60-point season in 67 games. As he enters his prime years, the time is right to match or even surpass those totals in Vegas.
Sep 21 - 1:17 AM

Ilya Kovalchuk scored his first preseason goal in a Kings uniform, but Los Angeles still lost 7-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday night.

The Russian winger scored one of his team's two goals Thursday night. Kovalchuk hasn't scored an NHL regular season goal since the 2012-13 season. The 35-year old, despite his age, should still get looked at in most fantasy drafts. But be cautious, as it remains to be seen if he can be consistently counted on as a goalscorer going forward.
Sep 21 - 1:17 AM

Bo Horvat scored two goals and an assist in a 4-3 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings in preseason action Thursday night.

Horvat will be counted on as a leader for the Canucks this season, regardless of whether or not he has a "C" on his jersey. The 23-year old center scored twice for the Canucks Thursday, including markers in the first and third period. He even added a goal in the shootout. Horvat's point total was slightly down last year from the year previous, but his goal output is steadily creeping upward. Could be worth a look in late rounds of your fantasy draft.
Sep 21 - 1:03 AM

Kale Clague picked up two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks in preseason action Thursday

Clague will likely start the season in the American Hockey League, but that's not stopping him from making a case to stick around with the Kings at the start of the season. Clague assisted on Tanner Pearson's second period marker before registering a second assist on Emerson Etem's goal in the same frame.
Sep 21 - 1:03 AM

Gustav Nyquist scored a goal and two assists during Thursday's 4-2 preseason victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Nyquist picked up the primary assist on Thomas Vanek's power play goal in the first period and added another one on Andreas Athanasiou's game-tying goal (2-2) in the second frame. Nyquist then added an empty-netter in the final minute of regulation. The 29-year-old had 21 goals and 40 points in 82 games last season. The Red Wings need him to put up better numbers in 2018-19.
Sep 20 - 10:03 PM

Kieffer Bellows found the back of the net during Thursday's 2-0 preseason win over the New Jersey Devils.

This goal was scored on the power play. Bellows has now found the back of the net twice during the exhibition season. The 20-year-old had 41 goals and 74 points in 56 games with WHL Portland last season. It wouldn't be surprising to see Bellows start his first full professional season in the minors, but he could also get an extended look at the NHL level if he keeps producing. Anders Lee also scored for the Islanders in their victory on Thursday night.
