Henrik Zetterberg scored a goal with an assist and a plus-1 rating in Monday's 5-3 loss at San Jose.

The captain moved into sole possession of fifth place on the franchise's all-time goals list with 336, breaking a tie with Ted Lindsay. "Ted means a lot to me, so passing him and doing it in this building too where I played my first NHL game is really special," Zetterberg said. He'll look to add to his goal tally when the road trip continues Thursday in Los Angeles.

Erik Karlsson was paired with Marc-Edouard Vlasic at Wednesday's practice.

This marked Karlsson's first session as a member of the Sharks following his trade from the Ottawa Senators. Brent Burns is slated to be paired with Justin Braun, who he skated with on Wednesday, or Joakim Ryan, who had the day off after he played on Tuesday night.

Matthew Tkachuk did not play in Wednesday's preseason game against Boston because of a lower-body injury.

"He tweaked it a little 3-on-3 down low in our skate [Tuesday]," coach Bill Peters said. "He could play easily today, but we're not going to force the issue this time of the year. If this was [opening night] against Vancouver in Vancouver, he'd be in the lineup."

Sam Reinhart has signed a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Reinhart's bridge deal will have an average annual value of $3.65 million. He had been away during training camp while waiting for a new deal. Reinhart registered career highs in 2017-18 with 25 goals and 50 points in 82 contests.

Alex DeBrincat has been skating alongside Jonathan Toews and Chris Kunitz at training camp.

DeBrincat led the Blackhawks with 28 goals last season despite spending most of his playing outside of the team's top-six forward group. He accounted for 52 points in 82 games during his rookie season. However, DeBrincat thought he was a bit too "streaky" and hopes to be more consistent this year.

John Tavares registered two goals and an assist as the Maple Leafs beat the Senators 4-1 on Tuesday night.

It was Tavares’ first game in a Leafs’ jersey and even though it’s still only the preseason, the Mississauga, ON native was impressive. He scored his first goal of the game when he took a pass down low in the slot and beat Mike Condon to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period. He then gave his team some insurance by beating Marcus Hogberg early in the third period for his second of the game and a 3-1 lead. The 27-year old also added an assist on Marner’s goal to ice the game. Marner had his own 3-point night as he collected assists on both of Tavares’ goals. Andreas Borgman also scored for the Leafs in the win.
Sep 18 - 10:39 PM

T.J. Brennan picked up three assists in Tuesday's 5-1 preseason win over the New York Islanders.

The Flyers dominated tonight's game and Brennan quietly put up three assists in an impressive performance. The 29-year-old blueliner has spent the last two seasons with Philly's AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, picking up 105 points in 139 games. He got a multi-year extension from the Flyers this off-season but is unlikely to make the squad out of camp. He hasn't appeared in an NHL game since the 2015-16 season when he got in seven games with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Sep 18 - 10:06 PM

Cam Atkinson picked up a goal and an assist in Tuesday night's 4-1 preseason win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Blue Jackets sent out a top line of Atkinson, Alexander Wennberg and Nick Foligno and the trip combined for two goals and five points on the night. Atkinson himself is coming off a bit of a down year after battling a foot injury midway through the season. If he can stay healthy this season, he'll certainly push for another 60-point season.

Morgan Frost has been returned to the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Frost skated in one preseason match for Philadelphia. He wasn't expected to stick with the big club out of training camp, but he isn't far away from being an NHLer. The 19-year-old racked up 42 goals and 112 points in 67 OHL contests last season.
Sep 18 - 12:29 PM

Conor Sheary is listed as week-to-week due to an upper-body injury.

Sheary is projected to be a top-nine forward for the Sabres this campaign. He posted 18 goals and 30 points in 79 games with Pittsburgh in 2017-18.
Sep 18 - 11:19 AM

Dillon Dube scored three goals on four shots in a 7-4 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.

Dube got off to a quick start in his preseason debut when he buried the opening goal just 23 seconds into the game. He then got off to another quick start in the second period when he scored his second goal of the game after 36 seconds. The 2016 second round pick wasted little time to complete the hat-trick as he beat Mikko Koskinen less than four minutes later. If Dube could continue to produce throughout the rest of the preseason, he could build a strong case to be on Calgary’s opening night roster. Andrew Mangiapane scored the only other Flames’ goal in the losing cause.
Sep 17 - 11:53 PM

Kevin Fiala scored a goal and four assists in one of Nashville's 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers.

This victory was one of two wins for the Preds in a split-squad contest with the Panthers tonight. Nashville's top line of Fiala, Johansen and Forsberg combined for five goals, seven assists and a plus-12 rating tonight. The 22-year-old Fiala is entering into just his second full season in the NHL and will be looking to improve upon last season's totals of 23 goals and 48 points. If the Predators start the regular-season with this top-line, Fiala would be a bargain at his current 13th round ADP.
