P. A. Parenteau has decided to hang up his skates.

Parenteau took the long way to the NHL as he didn't really establish himself at that level until he was 27-years-old. He recorded 53 points in 2010-11 with the Islanders and then followed that up with a 67-point campaign in 2011-12. He was never able to replicate those numbers, but he did surpass the 40-point milestone two more times and had 20 goals with Toronto in 2015-16. He's hanging up his skates with a total of 114 goals and 296 points in 491 games.

Joonas Korpisalo will play between the pipes Friday night.

Korpisalo will be going for his fourth straight win. He's 9-2-2 with a 2.94 GAA and .902 save percentage in 18 contests this season.

Garret Sparks will be the Maple Leafs' starter on Friday.

Frederik Andersen got the nod on Thursday, so it's not surprising to see Sparks play in this one. This will be his first start since returning from a concussion.

Ryan Johansen has received a two-game suspension for high-sticking Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele.

Johansen will miss Saturday's and Monday's games as a result. His argument that he wasn't intentionally attempting to strike Scheifele, however, the NHL still feels that Johansen still brought his stick down in a "reckless and irresponsible manner" and the result was that Johansen struck Scheifele in the neck/head. Johansen didn't previously have a history of supplemental discipline.

Elias Pettersson (knee) will miss Friday's contest.

This will be Pettersson's fifth straight game on the sidelines. He has 22 goals and 42 points in 38 contests in 2018-19. The rookie forward is close to being available to return.
Jan 18 - 4:13 PM

Petr Mrazek will play between the pipes on Friday.

That's not surprising given that Curtis McElhinney is recovering from a knee injury. Alex Nedeljkovic will serve as the backup goaltender.
Jan 18 - 3:41 PM

Vincent Trocheck (ankle) is off the injured reserve list.

Trocheck has been termed as a game-time decision, but this certainly suggests that he's ready to play on Friday. The Panthers also sent Juho Lammikko to the AHL in a corresponding move.
Jan 18 - 3:25 PM

Matt Dumba, who had surgery to repair a ruptured right pectoralis muscle, isn't sure if he'll play again this season.

The good news is that Dumba will be able to make a full recovery from the injury. "I’ll be back eventually, whether this year or next, and I'll do the same thing," Dumba said. "I'm not worried." He was having a great season before the injury with 12 goals and 22 points in 32 games. He averaged 23:23 minutes per contest.
Jan 18 - 3:15 PM

Thatcher Demko will start for the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.

Demko is making his second career appearance. His NHL debut was on March 31 and he stopped 26 of 30 shots in that contest. He has a 2.58 GAA and .911 save percentage in 16 AHL games this season.
Jan 18 - 3:10 PM

Bo Horvat (undisclosed) will be available on Friday.

Horvat absorbed some big hits on Wednesday, which led to Vancouver summoning Tanner Kero as a precaution in case Horvat needed time off. "I was a little scared at first that it was something serious, but it’s not bothering me today. I’m ready to go," Horvat said. He has 17 goals and 37 points in 48 contests this season.

Vincent Trocheck (ankle) is a game-time decision on Friday.

"We have a lot of question marks," Panthers coach Bob Boughner said. "As of yesterday, he wasn't supposed to [play], but he came in pounding the table. You know Troch, he wants to be back in so bad. The doctors sort of reaffirmed that he's back to 100 percent, so now it's just our decision." Trocheck practiced on Thursday, but was on a line with the healthy scratches. At the time, Boughner said that while Trocheck was healthy enough to play if it was absolutely necessary, the Panthers don't want to rush him back. If he does play on Friday, it will probably be on a line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Nick Bjugstad.
Jan 18 - 1:15 PM

Braden Holtby (eye) will play between the pipes Friday night.

Holtby wasn't the starter on Tuesday for "precautionary reasons." It was initially unclear if he would be in net on Friday, but after the morning skate he declared himself ready to go. "I feel good. It's back to normal," Holtby reported.
