There's reportedly no imminent trade on the Erik Karlsson front.

That doesn't mean Karlsson won't be traded, just that it might not happen soon. There was a report Thursday night that a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning was essentially done, pending a trade call to the league, but obviously that hasn't come to pass. So we shall wait.

Ty Rattie had two goals and five points in Thursday's 7-3 preseason win over Winnipeg.

Rattie now has eight points in two exhibition games, playing primarily on a line with Connor McDavid. While exhibition statistics have to be taken with a grain of salt, the main takeaway is that Oilers coach Todd McLellan is happy with how Rattie is playing with McDavid. "We’d like to keep that line (McDavid and crew) together and they had a helluva night but in all fairness the Jets’ team we’ll see Sunday in Winnipeg will be a little bit different," said McLellan. McDavid also likes Rattie, who he credited with getting the puck into McDavid's and fellow linemate Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' hands, which is something the superstar noted isn't an easy thing to do. If Rattie can stick with those two, then this could be a big season for him.

Reilly Smith scored a goal and three assists in a 7-2 blowout preseason win over the Los Angeles Kings Thursday night.

Smith scored his lone goal of the night in the opening period, capping off a 3-0 start for the Golden Knights. The winger also assisted on goals from William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault. Smith and the Golden Knights will look to prove their debut season was no fluke this year. Smith had a 60-point season in 67 games. As he enters his prime years, the time is right to match or even surpass those totals in Vegas.
Sep 21 - 1:17 AM

Ilya Kovalchuk scored his first preseason goal in a Kings uniform, but Los Angeles still lost 7-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday night.

The Russian winger scored one of his team's two goals Thursday night. Kovalchuk hasn't scored an NHL regular season goal since the 2012-13 season. The 35-year old, despite his age, should still get looked at in most fantasy drafts. But be cautious, as it remains to be seen if he can be consistently counted on as a goalscorer going forward.
Sep 21 - 1:17 AM

Bo Horvat scored two goals and an assist in a 4-3 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings in preseason action Thursday night.

Horvat will be counted on as a leader for the Canucks this season, regardless of whether or not he has a "C" on his jersey. The 23-year old center scored twice for the Canucks Thursday, including markers in the first and third period. He even added a goal in the shootout. Horvat's point total was slightly down last year from the year previous, but his goal output is steadily creeping upward. Could be worth a look in late rounds of your fantasy draft.

Kale Clague picked up two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks in preseason action Thursday

Clague will likely start the season in the American Hockey League, but that's not stopping him from making a case to stick around with the Kings at the start of the season. Clague assisted on Tanner Pearson's second period marker before registering a second assist on Emerson Etem's goal in the same frame.
Sep 21 - 1:03 AM

Gustav Nyquist scored a goal and two assists during Thursday's 4-2 preseason victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Nyquist picked up the primary assist on Thomas Vanek's power play goal in the first period and added another one on Andreas Athanasiou's game-tying goal (2-2) in the second frame. Nyquist then added an empty-netter in the final minute of regulation. The 29-year-old had 21 goals and 40 points in 82 games last season. The Red Wings need him to put up better numbers in 2018-19.
Sep 20 - 10:03 PM

Kieffer Bellows found the back of the net during Thursday's 2-0 preseason win over the New Jersey Devils.

This goal was scored on the power play. Bellows has now found the back of the net twice during the exhibition season. The 20-year-old had 41 goals and 74 points in 56 games with WHL Portland last season. It wouldn't be surprising to see Bellows start his first full professional season in the minors, but he could also get an extended look at the NHL level if he keeps producing. Anders Lee also scored for the Islanders in their victory on Thursday night.
Sep 20 - 9:56 PM

Brendan Gallagher scored a goal and an assist during Thursday's 5-2 preseason victory over the Washington Capitals.

This game was played in Quebec City. Gallagher opened the scoring at the 3:06 mark of the first period when he buried a wrist shot into the Capitals' net. The 26-year-old also picked up the primary assist on Arturri Lehkonen's power-play goal early in the second frame. Gallagher had 31 goals and 54 points in 82 games last season. Don't be surprised if he picks up a similar amount of points, but the goal total might decrease. Michael Chaput, Jacob de la Rose and Rinat Valiev also found the back of the net for Montreal in this one.

Max Domi has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason.

Domi is being punished for sucker punching Aaron Ekblad during Wednesday's game. Domi tried to force Ekblad into a fight for a while, but when Ekblad refused, Domi decided to punch him anyways. This is Domi's second career suspension. He's not going to actually miss any games that matter over this incident though, so this punishment is rather light.

Max Domi will face a hearing Thursday for roughing/punch to an unsuspecting opponent.

Domi was assessed a roughing penalty and a match penalty for punching Florida defenseman Aaron Ekblad in a preseason game on Wednesday night.
Sep 20 - 9:10 AM

Tyler Bozak scored two goals during Wednesday's 3-2 preseason win over the Minnesota Wild.

Bozak scored his first of the night with just under five minutes left in regulation and needed just 27 more seconds to give the Blues the lead. The veteran center signed a three-year deal with the Blues during the off-season and will likely slide right into a third line role with the team. He should only be owned in deeper leagues.
