The Toronto Maple Leafs will begin the 2018-19 campaign without a team captain.

Toronto's last captain was Dion Phaneuf, who was traded back in February 2016. For a while now, Auston Matthews has been regarded as something of a captain-in-waiting, but the Maple Leafs' signing of John Tavares over the summer has raised questions as to whether or not he'll get the 'C' instead. Now it seems we aren't close to seeing that question resolved. "It’s an honor to be the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs," Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said. "I want to get into it day to day with these people and see who is best suited to handle it if we do determine we need somebody to handle it, if we feel we have a void in leadership because we don’t have a formal captain. But I do think we have excellent leadership in the room."

The Philadelphia Flyers are getting James van Riemsdyk (knee) back on Thursday.

van Riemsdyk hasn't been able to play since Oct. 6. He signed a five-year, $35 million contract with Philadelphia over the summer. When it comes to the power play, van Riemsdyk is expected to be in front of the net on the top unit Thursday night.

Sidney Crosby (upper body) will miss Thursday's game.

Crosby is expected to be out for about a week. The good news is that the Penguins have specified that his upper-body injury is not a concussion.
Nov 15 - 11:52 AM

The New York Islanders have put Andrew Ladd (lower body) on the injured reserve list.

Ladd is out indefinitely due to the injury. He has three goals and seven points in 14 contests this season.
Nov 15 - 11:46 AM

Andrei Vasilevskiy (fractured foot) will miss an extended period of time.

That's a huge blow for the Lightning, as Vasilevskiy is one of the top goaltenders in the NHL. The Bolts are talented enough that should be able to survive while their goalie is out, but going from Vasilevskiy to Louis Domingue is a clear downgrade. The 24-year-old had a 9-3-1 record with a 2.29 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage before the injury.
Nov 15 - 9:59 AM

Marc-Andre Fleury recorded his second shutout of the season in a 5-0 win against the Ducks on Wednesday night.

Fleury was outstanding in stopping all 29 Anaheim shots that he faced throughout the game. In 2018-19, the veteran netminder has an 8-7-1 record with a 2.51 GAA, a .902 save percentage and two shutouts.
Nov 15 - 1:46 AM

With a pair of goals in a 5-0 win against the Ducks on Wednesday night, Cody Eakin extended his point streak to five games.

Eakin scored Vegas’ second and fourth goals of the game, with the latter being scored shorthanded and both came in the second period. Despite his recent success, in which he has collected four goals and two assists, the 27-year old is still owned in only 1% of fantasy leagues. Due to injuries to Stastny and Haula, Eakin has found his way onto Vegas’ second line and centers the likes of Max Pacioretty and Alex Tuch. It would be wise to get him into your lineups, at least until his production cools off for a few games or Stastny or Haula return.
Nov 15 - 1:28 AM

Jake DeBrusk scored two goals in a 6-3 losing effort to the Avalanche on Wednesday night.

DeBrusk scored his first goal of the night on a breakaway following a turnover at the Boston blue line with 40 seconds remaining in the first period, giving his team a 2-1 lead heading into intermission. The 22-year old later scored on the powerplay to increase the lead to 3-1 just over three minutes into the second frame. DeBrusk’s production totals for this season are now seven goals and two assists in 18 games. David Pastrnak also scored in the loss.
Nov 15 - 12:47 AM

Mikko Rantanen registered a goal and two assists in a 6-3 win versus the Bruins on Wednesday night.

In addition to the three points, in which his goal was registered on the powerplay, the 22-year old Finn finished the night with a plus-one rating, two penalty minutes and a hit in 20:38 of ice time. With five points in his last two games, Rantanen has now amassed seven goals and 29 points in 18 games this season. Landeskog, Calvert, MacKinnon, Jost and Kerfoot also scored in the win.

Cam Fowler will undergo surgery on Friday after a CT scan revealed a complex right facial fracture.

Fowler's facial fracture involves the orbital bone, cheekbone and upper jaw bone. He was struck in the face by a puck on Monday night against the Predators. An update regarding the extent of his absence should be provided following his surgery on Friday.
Nov 15 - 12:17 AM

Blake Wheeler picked up an assist in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Washington Capitals.

Wheeler helped set up Mark Scheifele's power-play goal in the second period, which tied the game at one. The Jets captain has now picked up at least one point in 11 consecutive games. He finished the night with one shot on goal in 20:44 of ice time. The 32-year-old has three goals and 24 points in 17 games this season. His goal total is a little low, but his point production has been elite all year. Ben Chiarot and Kyle Connor also found the back of the net for Winnipeg on Wednesday night.
Nov 14 - 11:41 PM

Brent Seabrook found the back of the net during Wednesday's 1-0 win over the St. Louis Blues.

Seabrook got credit for the goal, but Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was the one who kicked the puck into his own net. The Hawks defender finished the night with two shots on goal, one hit and three blocked shots in 22:12 of ice time. The 33-year-old has three goals and 10 points in 19 games this season. Seabrook struggles to keep up with opponents at this stage of his career, but he's off to a nice start offensively. The victory was new head coach Jeremy Colliton's first behind an NHL bench and it allowed the Blackhawks to put an end to their eight-game losing skid.
