Sidney Crosby found the back of the net during Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.

Crosby opened the scoring with a power-play marker at the 12:16 mark of the first period. Jack Johnson pounced on a turnover in the Caps zone before dishing the puck off to the Penguins captain. Caps forward Alex Ovechkin eventually tied the game with a power-play goal of his own and T.J. Oshie scored the winner for Washington with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. Crosby finished the night with a minus-1 rating, two penalty minutes and eight shots on goal in 21:35 of ice time. He has seven goals and 15 points in 14 games this season.

David Rittich will get the call for Calgary on Wednesday night.

Rittich will make his third straight start when the Flames host Winnipeg. He has won his last five appearances to boost his record to 7-1-0 on the year. Rittich has a 1.93 goals-against average and .931 save percentage in 10 outings.

Alex Lyon will be in goal for Philadelphia on Wednesday night versus Buffalo.

Lyon was expected to get the nod for the Flyers because Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth are injured and Calvin Pickard has struggled. This will be Lyon first start of the NHL season. He had a 4-2-1 record with the Flyers last year to go with a 2.75 goals-against average and .905 save percentage over 11 appearances.

T.J. Oshie (upper body) won't play Wednesday and remains day-to-day.

Oshie hasn't skated since he sustained what is believed to a concussion on Nov. 14 versus Winnipeg. Coach Todd Reirden said there's nothing new to report on the situation until Oshie can get back on the ice.

Evgeny Kuznetsov (upper body) remains day-to-day and won't play Wednesday night.

Kuznetsov was not on the ice for the morning skate. "Nothing new. They're day to day and they'll stay that way, I guess, until they get back on the ice," said coach Todd Reirden referring to Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie. "Then, I can update you some more." He hasn't been on the ice since he suffered a suspected concussion against Winnipeg on Nov. 14.

Jared McCann will center the second line Wednesday night.

McCann will move into Vincent Trocheck's spot between Jonathan Huberdeau and Nick Bjugstad. Trocheck is out indefinitely following ankle surgery. McCann has two goals and six points in 17 games this season. Florida needs him to elevate his play like he did at the end of the 2017-18 campaign when he filled in for injured center Aleksander Barkov.

Casey DeSmith will get the start for Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

DeSmith and the Penguins blew a 4-1 lead in Monday's 5-4 overtime loss, but coach Mike Sullivan will go back to him against Dallas. He has a 3-3-3 record this season with a 2.54 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in 12 appearances.

Ondrej Palat (lower body) took part in the morning skate, but won't play Wednesday night.

Palat was sporting a regular jersey during his first session with the team since he suffered what is believed to be a foot injury on Oct. 26 against Vegas. Coach Jon Cooper said that Palat is still a bit away from making a return.

Carolina has activated Victor Rask (hand) from the injured non-roster list.

Rask will be available to make his season debut on Wednesday night. He was hurt while slicing food in his kitchen and had to undergo surgery on Sept. 13 on his right fourth and fifth fingers.
