Casey DeSmith signed a three-year, $3.75 million contract extension.

That's a pretty solid signing for the Penguins. DeSmith has been an above average backup this season and even picked up the slack at times when Matt Murray has been hurt or struggling. DeSmith doesn't have much of a track record, which is particularly noteworthy given that he's 27-years-old, but that cap hit makes him fairly low risk and if he continues playing like he has, then it'll be a nice asset for the Penguins that they have such an effective backup at that price.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 35 shots he faced in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Dallas Stars.

Vasilevskiy had the save of the night, absolutely robbing Radek Faksa of a power play marker. The shutout is Vasilevskiy's third of the season, and the 15th of his career to move him into second place on the franchise shutout list (Ben Bishop, 17). The Russian goaltender will see his record improve to 19-5-2 with a 2.46 goals-against-average and a .926 save percentage.
Jan 15 - 11:33 PM

Laurent Brossoit allowed one goal on 44 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Brossoit entered the final period looking for his second shutout of the season but Brandon Pirri beat him with a deflection just 1:03 into that frame to spoil his night. Winnipeg's backup goaltender will see his record improve to an impressive 10-1-1 with a 2.01 goals-against-average and a .943 save percentage.
Jan 15 - 11:04 PM

Kyle Connor scored two goals and assisted on another in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Connor opened the scoring by showing off his speed on a shorthanded breakaway goal before getting a goal and an assist into an empty-net in the dying couple of minutes of the hockey game. The 22-year-old winger has nine points in his last six games, bringing him to 18 goals and 37 points in 46 games this season.
Jan 15 - 10:57 PM

Blake Coleman scored a goal in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With the Devils trailing 4-0 late, Coleman busted Joonas Korpisalo's shutout with a goal off a deflection. It's Coleman sixth goal in his last seven games, bringing the 27-year-old winger to 17 goals and 27 points in 46 games this season.
Jan 15 - 10:04 PM

David Perron scored a goal in Tuesday’s 2-1 overtime loss to the New York Islanders.

Ryan O’Reilly made a great play to beat New York’s Scott Mayfield to the puck behind the net, feeding it to Perron who buried it. The goal extends Perron’s point streak to 12 games, making him the first Blue to record such a streak since Alexander Steen from Oct. 17 – Nov. 16, 2013. Perron now finds himself at 17 goals and 34 points in 44 games this season.
Jan 15 - 9:43 PM

Jakob Silfverberg is questionable to return to Tuesday's game because of a lower-body injury.

Silfverberg exited the game after he got tangled up with Detroit's Mike Green along the boards. His leg appeared to get pinned under him awkwardly when he fell, which could mean a knee or ankle injury.
Jan 15 - 9:02 PM

Juuse Saros will tend to the twine against Washington on Tuesday night.

Saros stopped all 13 shots he faced in a relief appearance against Carolina on Sunday and this will be his first start since Jan. 5 when he posted a win over Montreal. The Predators backup has a 10-5-1 record this year with a 2.62 GAA and .909 save percentage.
Jan 15 - 7:40 PM

Pheonix Copley will be in the crease on Tuesday night.

Copley will start for a second straight game after he played in Monday's 4-1 loss to St. Louis. This could mean that Braden Holtby's eye isn't quite 100 percent, but he seems to be well enough to be on the bench again as the backup.
Jan 15 - 7:31 PM

James Reimer will start Tuesday night against Montreal.

It was previously reported that Roberto Luongo would get the nod based on the morning skate, but Reimer led the Panthers onto the ice for pregame warmups.
Jan 15 - 7:11 PM

Alex Stalock will be in goal for Tuesday's game versus Los Angeles.

Stalock made a relief appearance against Philadelphia on Monday night after Devan Dubnyk was pulled. He stopped five of six shots during 17:33 of playing time in Minnesota's 7-4 loss. This will be his first start since Jan. 8 when he lost 4-0 to Boston. Stalock has a 5-4-0 record this year with a 2.76 goals-against average and .896 save percentage.
Jan 15 - 6:02 PM

Jordan Binnington will be in the crease Tuesday night against the New York Islanders.

Binnington was excellent in the first three starts of his NHL career last week, while going 3-0-0 with a 0.67 goals-against average, a .974 save percentage and one shutout.
