| Felix Pie - BAL |
Felix Pie (shoulder) is hoping to play in Saturday's spring game. Pie has been sidelined for a week now with shoulder tendinitis. He played catch and took batting practice Wednesday, though, and told MLB.com's Britt Ghiroli that he could probably even play in Friday's game. Orioles manager Dave Trembley is wisely holding him back, however. Source: Britt Ghiroli on Twitter Mar. 17 - 12:25 pm et |
| Mike Gonzalez - BAL |
Mike Gonzalez (back) will attempt a bullpen session Wednesday. The O's closer plans to start out with a game of catch and will progress to a mound workout if all goes well initially. He was sidelined over the weekend with a back injury but seems to be doing just fine. Gonzalez had a 2.42 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 90/33 K/BB last season while collecting 17 saves. | Kevin Millwood - BAL |
Kevin Millwood allowed three runs on four hits over five innings during an intersquad game on Tuesday. Millwood, who was rocked in his first two Grapefruit League starts, threw 88 pitches during Tuesday's intersquad contest. "It's a big advantage for me," said Millwood. "It's hard to work on things when you're facing Joe Mauer and guys like that. You feel like you're leaving your teammates out there when you're trying to work on things, and you almost feel a little selfish. So to be able to do it this way and not leave those guys out there, it's a lot more comforting." Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz said Millwood will likely throw 90 pitches in his next spring start. Source: MLB.com Mar. 16 - 5:25 pm et |
| Steve Johnson - BAL |
Orioles accepted Rule 5 selection RHP Steve Johnson back from the Giants. Johnson, who was the 19th pick of December's Rule 5 draft, allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings of work with the Giants this spring. The 22-year-old right-hander was acquired by the Orioles from the Dodgers in the George Sherrill trade last July. He finished 12-7 with a 3.41 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 27 games (25 starts) between both organizations last season. Though he won't make the Giants, Orioles fans will happily welcome the Maryland-boy home. Mar. 16 - 4:42 pm et |
| David Hernandez - BAL |
David Hernandez got the start and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings Tuesday in the Orioles' 3-1 win over the Twins. Hernandez has a 14/1 K/BB ratio, but since he's allowed three homers, his ERA stands at 4.50 through 10 innings. Hernandez is still working as a starter, even though it's doubtful that he'll have a rotation spot unless someone gets injured. He'd have a better chance of making the Orioles as a reliever, but since he's not getting any experience there right now, it looks like he's probably Triple-A bound. Mar. 16 - 4:02 pm et |
| Mike Gonzalez - BAL |
Mike Gonzalez (back) resumed baseball activities Monday and is hoping to resume his spring throwing program shortly. "I feel much better," the O's closer said Tuesday. "I did more activities yesterday and I'll do a little more today. I've been playing catch every day to keep my arm in shape. It's just a matter of getting back on the mound and seeing how it goes." It sure sounds like he will be fine for Opening Day. Source: MASNSports.com Mar. 16 - 10:05 am et |
| Brian Roberts - BAL |
Brian Roberts received treatment on his back Monday in Baltimore. He has since returned to Florida. Roberts received an epidural to help relieve the pain in his back, which could help speed up his recovery. "We'll just have to wait a couple of days and see how he responds," club president of baseball operations Andy MacPhai said. There is not yet a timetable for Robert's return. | Luke Scott - BAL |
Luke Scott had a three-run homer and an RBI double Monday to lead the Orioles past the Red Sox 8-4. Scott isn't thrilled, but it looks like he'll be the Orioles' primary designated hitter this year. Time will tell if he'll start against lefties as well as righties. He probably will initially, considering that he hit an impressive .264/.312/.528 against southpaws last year, but the Orioles do have Ty Wigginton aroung to potentially pick up some slack. Mar. 15 - 5:01 pm et |
| Brad Bergesen - BAL |
Brad Bergesen surrendered two runs in 2 2/3 innings Monday in a win over the Red Sox. Bergesen is only a little behind after hurting his shoulder shooting a television commercial back in February. The way the Orioles' rotation is set up currently, it looks like he'll start the fourth game of the season behind Kevin Millwood, Jeremy Guthrie and Brian Matusz. Chris Tillman is the likely fifth starter. Mar. 15 - 4:58 pm et |
| Michel Hernandez - BAL |
Michel Hernandez will miss 4-to-6 weeks with a fractured right index finger. Hernandez, 31, was signed to a minor league contract by the Orioles in November after spending the past two seasons in the Rays organization. His absence leaves Chad Moeller and Craig Tatum for the honor of backing up Matt Wieters. Source: Brittany Ghiroli on Twitter Mar. 15 - 11:46 am et |
