Oliver Perez - NYM

Oliver Perez (knee) wasn't great in his latest rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo Friday.
Perez allowed three runs, but it was his pitch count that was worrisome. Of his 92 pitches, only 46 were strikes. The Mets were planning on starting Perez against the Dodgers Wednesday if all went well, but seeing as it didn't, that plan may now be in jeopardy. Stay tuned.

 Fernando Tatis - NYM

Fernando Tatis went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, a stolen base, two RBI and four runs scored in Thursday's extra-inning win over the Pirates.
Tatis helped to stake the Mets to an 8-5 lead in the sixth when he hit a two-run homer off Pirates reliever Jeff Karstens. Tatis scored the winning run in the tenth. With two outs, he was hit by a Matt Capps pitch and then he stole second base. He was singled in by Ryan Church. Thursday's monster game raises Tatis' line to .261/.335/.399 in 153 at-bats.

 Tim Redding - NYM

Tim Redding was blitzed for five runs in 2 1/3 innings on Thursday against the Pirates.
This could very well be the last straw for Mr. Redding, who could lose not only his rotation spot but his roster space. He was dreadful in this one, allowing six hits and two walks while recording only seven outs. His ERA spiked to 6.99. Redding was spared a loss when the Mets offense came alive pulled out a 9-8 ten-inning victory.

 David Wright - NYM

David Wright is in the starting lineup again on Thursday.
Mets manager Jerry Manuel spoke Tuesday about giving Wright a day off soon, but the third baseman has fought to stay in the lineup. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Wednesday night and has recently displayed signs of fatigue. He's highly likely to take a break before the All-Star game.

 David Wright - NYM

Mets manager Jerry Manuel has decided to scrap his plan of giving David Wright the day off Wednesday.
The decision makes plenty of sense to us. The Mets have lost five straight and Wright is the only guy in the lineup still putting up consistent numbers. He'll bat third and play third base.

 David Wright - NYM

David Wright will be given the day off Wednesday.
Wright broke a 79 at-bat homer-less streak Tuesday night, but Jerry Manuel said he's noticed his third baseman's swing getting "longer" -- a definite sign of fatigue. "He tells me when I have a day off," Wright said. "Of course, you want to be out there and you want to play, especially with the injuries and what's going on. At the same time, it's more important to be able to sustain over 162 games." Fernando Tatis will get the nod at third base.

 Johan Santana - NYM

Johan Santana surrendered six runs -- five earned -- over six innings in a 6-3 loss to the Brewers on Tuesday night.
Santana gave up nine hits, including a monster home run to Prince Fielder, while fanning four and walking four. A big blunder by Fernando Martinez didn't help his cause, but things really unraveled for Santana in the fourth after he walked the opposing pitcher. He would pay by eventually giving up a bases clearing double to Ryan Braun -- Santana actually allowed Braun to come around to score due to an errant throw to third base. With the rough outing, Santana's ERA jumped to 3.34. The Mets will need him at his best in his next start against the Phillies.

 David Wright - NYM

David Wright was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday night.
Wright went 78 at-bats without a home run. It was his first homer since June 9. With the 3-for-4 night, Wright pushed his league-leading batting average up to .345. Considering that the Mets have now five six games in a row, it will be awful tough for Jerry Manuel to sit him as promised on Wednesday.

 Jose Reyes - NYM

The Mets are now hopeful that Jose Reyes (hamstring) can return to the lineup sometime around the All-Star break.
Reyes has stepped up his rehab and is expected to run the bases at full strength Wednesday for the first time since suffering a setback in early June.

 David Wright - NYM

Manager Jerry Manuel said he plans to give David Wright and Gary Sheffield the day off for the afternoon finale against the Brewers Wednesday.
Wright has been slumping of late and could use the off day. With the Pirates throwing Paul Maholm on Thursday, Manuel wants both lefty killers rested and in the starting lineup.
