Twins released RHP Joel Zumaya.
The move officially clears him from the Twins' 40-man roster. Zumaya is set to undergo Tommy John surgery later this week, but the injury-prone right-hander fully intends to continue his playing career.

Joel Zumaya is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on March 29.
Dr. James Andrews will perform the operation. Zumaya tore the UCL in his right elbow after throwing just 13 pitches in Twins camp and seems likely to be released from Minnesota's 40-man roster before Opening Day. The 27-year-old right-hander will keep $400,000 of the $850,000 contract that he agreed to back in January.

Joel Zumaya intends to continue his playing career following Tommy John surgery at the end of March.
The procedure will be performed by Dr. James Andrews. The oft-injured right-hander tore his UCL after throwing just 13 pitches in Twins camp and will likely be released by the team prior to Opening Day. Zumaya will have missed two straight full seasons and not appeared in more than 31 games since his rookie season back in 2006. It's a longshot that he'll ever make it back and be an effective reliever again.

Zumaya called it a "family decision" and said that he will speak with other pitchers who have undergone Tommy John surgery to get a gauge on what the recovery process is like. The 27-year-old tore his UCL after throwing just 13 pitches in Twins camp. He'll keep $400,000 of the $850,000 deal he agreed to in January.

Trevor Plouffe said Wednesday that he passed his concussion test, but was placed on the 7-day disabled list because of his initial wooziness.
After what happened with Justin Morneau and Denard Span in previous seasons, the Twins didn't want to take any chances. Plouffe hopes to be back when he's first eligible next week.

Twins transferred OF Darin Mastroianni from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for Chris Colabello on the 40-man roster. Mastroianni is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle and will be sidelined until the second half of the season.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
