Roger Clemens is not ruling out a return in 2013.
As of now, Clemens, 50, plans on being with the Astros next spring in a coaching capacity, but he'll consider a comeback if he gets the itch. "I might be going again here in February or something like that," Clemens said. "I’ll be throwing. I don’t think it’s going to be competitive, but you guys know with me, I’m never going to shut the door on anything. Who knows what might happen. We had this (Skeeters) opportunity come up, but I’m not getting any younger and it’s not getting any easier."

Roger Clemens told Mark Berman of FOX 26 in Houston on Monday that he will not pitch for the Astros this season.
Clemens said as much after his most recent start with the independent Sugar Land Skeeters on Friday, but Astros owner Jim Crane said Monday that it was still a possibility he could pitch against a non-contender. However, the seven-time Cy Young Award winner told Berman that he only would have returned if he had the chance to be a spoiler. "Why would I want to waste my time running around and getting in shape," explained Clemens. "I get over to Minute Maid (Park), I'll crank it up and get it over 90 for a contender. We'll knock them right out of the playoffs. That would be the fun. Pitching against somebody that's not in contention wouldn't be any fun for me. It's not going to happen." As of now, the 50-year-old Clemens is planning to help the Astros in a coaching capacity during spring training next year.

Crane added that if they did sign Clemens, he would not make any appearances against contending teams. Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Monday that he has planned his rotation through the rest of the season and didn't include Roger Clemens.
Clemens has seven scoreless innings in two starts with the independent Sugar Land Skeeters, but said Friday that he doesn't think he's close to MLB-ready and was aiming to possibly join the Astros for spring training next year. There was speculation that the 50-year-old could make a start with the Astros this month, but that's looking more and more like a longshot.

Yankees placed 1B Mark Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 16, with right wrist inflammation.
An MRI over the weekend didn't reveal any new damage in the wrist, but he was given a cortisone shot and will now get some extended rest. The Yankees are hopeful that he'll be able to play through the condition for the entire season, but the possibility of surgery still looms. Lyle Overbay will fill in at first base once again.

Derek Jeter (ankle) took batting practice Wednesday for the first time since his second ankle fracture.
It's another big step for the rehabbing shortstop, who is working out at the Yankees' spring training complex in Tampa, Florida. Jeter has been hitting off a tee and doing light fielding drills for about a week and is currently on track to return to the Yankees' active roster shortly after the All-Star break.

Nunez, on the DL since May 6, took indoor batting practice and fielded grounders at the Yankees' spring training complex. It's still not clear when he'll be sent on a rehab assignment, but he remains on track to be activated from the disabled list in early July.

A-Rod is finally beginning to take major strides in his recovery from January hip surgery. He ran the bases at 75 percent effort over the weekend and is now ready to begin working on his timing at the plate. The veteran third baseman will be activated from the disabled list shortly after the All-Star break if everything continues to go according to plan with his rehab.

Kevin Youkilis has a herniated disc in his back and will undergo surgery to repair it on Thursday.
He is expected to need about 10-12 weeks of rest and rehab, which puts his season in jeopardy. It's another brutal blow to the Yankees, who have been without third baseman Alex Rodriguez (hip) all year. Youkilis was batting .219/.305/.343 with two home runs and eight RBI in 28 games as A-Rod's fill-in at the hot corner.

Granderson should then be cleared for light workouts. The outfielder has been on the disabled list (and mostly idle) since May 25 and is not expected to be ready to rejoin the Yankees until after the All-Star break.
