Free agent Carl Everett, who didn't sign with another team after being cut by the Mariners in July, would like to play next season.
Everett's behavior was worth putting up with when he was a quality regular. Now that he's a 35-year-old fringe player, he's going to have a harder time than most finding work. Still, it's likely that he'll be offered minor league contracts by a few teams.

Everett, who was designated for assignment by the Mariners last month, may struggle to find more than a Triple-A job given his sub par hitting and personality.

Mariners designated outfielder Carl Everett for assignment.
The decision to guarantee Everett $4 million in the offseason was an extremely bad one, but he still didn't figure to play quite so poorly. He hit .227/.297/.360 with just 33 RBI in 308 at-bats for the Mariners. Releasing him before his 2007 option could vest was a very good idea. The Mariners called up Chris Snelling to replace him for now, and it's believed that they're interested in acquiring Todd Walker to take over as their left-handed designated hitter.

Carl Everett was ejected from Wednesday's game in the eighth inning for arguing a play at first base.
Everett was obviously out, but he was due for another fit. The Mariners should cut their losses and released Everett. Roberto Petagine would provide superior production as a DH against right-handers, as would Chris Snelling, if only he could be counted on to stay healthy. Plus, Erubiel Durazo is out there waiting to be snatched up.

If everything goes smoothly, the center fielder should be back with Seattle early next week. He has been on the disabled list since April 23 with a hamstring strain.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Felix Hernandez is "feeling good" a day after leaving his start against the Yankees early after tweaking his back
Hernandez tweaked his back while fielding a ground ball and turning and throwing to second base in the sixth. He would have come out for the seventh if not for the minor ailment. It's not expected to affect his next start, though. "He's good," Wedge said. "He said it was pretty sore this morning, but he feels good, and [trainer Rick Griffin] felt he got him in a good place after the game last night. He's feeling good today, so we should be fine."

The Mariners think Aaron Harang (back) will be ready to make his next start.
Harang was scratched from Thursday's outing due to a stiff lower back, but it appears that he's not going to need a DL stint unless he has a setback over the next few days. The big right-hander holds a 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts this season.

Mariners transferred RHP Stephen Pryor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Pryor now won't be eligible to return until mid-June, but he wasn't going to be ready before then, anyway. The hard-thrower recently resumed his throwing program but has yet to test things out from a mound.

Kinney has been on the shelf all season because of a stress reaction in his left shoulder and rib cage. He's likely to spend around two weeks in the minor leagues.
