Diamondbacks signed RHP Brett Tomko to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Reno.
Tomko was released by the Reds earlier this month after posting a 3.78 ERA and 48/33 K/BB ratio in 12 starts (66 2/3 innings) at the Triple-A level. The 39-year-old seems doubtful to crack the big league roster in Arizona.

Tomko, 39, signed a minor league deal with the Reds this winter and had a 3.78 ERA and 48/33 K/BB ratio in 66 2/3 innings across 12 starts with Triple-A Louisville. One wonders if this is the end of the road for him.

Brett Tomko turned in two scoreless innings out of the pen Sunday versus the Angels.
Tomko gave up three runs in his first inning of the spring, so this pulls his ERA back down to 9.00. He'll have to prove himself in Triple-A at the start of the year if he wants another shot with the Reds.

Reds signed RHP Brett Tomko to a minor league contract.
It's not clear if the deal includes a spring training invite. Tomko, who turns 39 in April, posted a 4.58 ERA and 14/10 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings with the Rangers last season, but spent most of the year at the Triple-A level. Of course, Tomko was originally drafted by the Reds in 1995 and spent the first three years of his major league career with the club.

Aaron Hill (hand) experienced no problems when taking live batting practice on Friday, and will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
Hill will remain with Triple-A Reno through Wednesday, and if all goes well could be cleared to return to the Diamondbacks' lineup as early as next weekend. Hill has been limited to just ten games on the season after sustaining the hand injury in early April.

"Everything has been good -- hitting, running, throwing," Chavez said. "I didn't know really what to expect, but [it's] gone really good." Chavez has already missed three weeks of action and doesn't figure to be activated until the tail end of June, at the earliest.

Ian Kennedy has dropped the appeal of his 10-game suspension and will begin serving it on Monday.
Kennedy doesn't think he deserved 10 games for his role in last week's brawl with the Dodgers, but with the D'Backs having a couple off days over the next week, it makes sense to drop the appeal. He'll be eligible to return on June 29.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
It will be his first since a nagging shoulder injury sent him to the disabled list in late May. McCarthy was cleared to throw from the bump after long-tossing from 105 on Monday with no issues. It's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment, but a return early next month seems likely.

Trevor Cahill (hip) is expected to be ready for his next start.
Cahill had to leave Wednesday's game after taking a first-inning Marcell Ozuna line drive off his right hip. His removal was a precaution, though, and he'll be fine for a start early next week against the Nationals.

Daniel Hudson has suffered a re-tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Terrible news. Hudson, who had Tommy John surgery last July, suffered the re-tear during an extended spring training start on Tuesday. The 26-year-old right-hander was originally hoping to rejoin the Diamondbacks' rotation around midseason, he's now likely facing another surgery and an additional year of recovery time. Just brutal. If you had him stashed in a DL spot in your fantasy league, feel free to drop him now.

He'll remain with Reno through next Tuesday, as the D'Backs want him to appear in back-to-back games before being activated. Heath Bell has been scored upon in each of his last three outings and seems likely to cede the closer job back to Putz.

Matt Reynolds has been diagnosed with a slight tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.
Reynolds will receive a second opinion, but the plan for now is to shut him down for six weeks before he can hopefully begin a throwing program. Of course, anytime the UCL is compromised, the possibility of Tommy John surgery is there. Either way, it's unfortunate for the D'Backs bullpen, as Reynolds holds a 1.98 ERA and 1.10 WHIP this season.
