Daryle Ward was suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for amphetamines.
The 36-year-old might simply decide to hang up his cleats. Ward was released by the Diamondbacks in September of last season after failing to get past Double-A and hasn't appeared in a big league game since 2008.

Diamondbacks released INF Daryle Ward.
Ward signed a minor league deal with Arizona in August and batted .318/.445/.471 with two home runs and 18 RBI over 110 plate appearances with Double-A Mobile. The 36-year-old hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2008 as a member of the Cubs.

Diamondbacks signed INF Daryle Ward to a minor league contract.
He was assigned to Double-A Mobile. Now 36 years old, Ward has been playing with the Newark Bears of the Independent Atlantic League. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2008 as a member of the Cubs.

Nationals acquired first baseman Daryle Ward and outfielder Norris Hopper from the White Sox for cash.
Ward and Hopper, former major leaguers, were playing for Triple-A Charlotte. Both will report to Triple-A Syracuse. The Nationals just needed warm bodies at Syracuse. Ward has played 11 seasons in the majors with six different teams. He hit .308 with six homers and 19 RBI in 78 games with the Nationals in 2006 before being traded to the Braves.

Aaron Hill will have his left hand examined by a doctor next Monday.
That will be two weeks after Hill was hoping to get the go-ahead to resume baseball activities, as his fractured hand is healing much slower than expected. The original timetable had him possibly returning by late May, but he probably won't be activated until well into June now.

Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Thursday that Adam Eaton will "probably" get a second opinion on his left elbow from Dr. James Andrews in the coming days.
Eaton was recently pulled off his minor league rehab assignment due to renewed discomfort in his elbow. Towers said an MRI showed fluid around his ulnar collateral ligament, but no new damage was found. As of now, he's expected to rest for 2-3 weeks before restarting his rehab program, but he'll get Andrews' opinion just to be on the safe side.

Daniel Hudson (elbow) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings in an extended spring training game on Friday.
It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation.

Putz has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament, a strained flexor pronator and nerve irritation in his right elbow -- all of which can be addressed through rehab. He will try to return before the end of the 2013 season. Heath Bell has taken over Arizona's ninth-inning gig.
