Making his first appearance in 15 days, Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks on Wednesday.
Manager Don Mattingly made it obvious he prefers Tim Federowicz to Hernandez as A.J. Ellis' backup, but with Federowicz back in Triple-A, he had no choice but to give Hernandez just his second start in May and sixth of the season. Hernandez came through in a big way, but we'll see if that makes any difference to Mattingly.

Dodgers acquired C Ramon Hernandez from the Rockies for RHP Aaron Harang and cash considerations.
Hernandez was designated for assignment last week after he failed to make the Rockies' Opening Day roster. The 36-year-old should provide catching depth for the Dodgers behind A.J. Ellis. Hernandez is due $3.2 million this season and will become a free agent in 2014.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have traded catcher Ramon Hernandez to the Dodgers.
The Rockies are just looking to dump salary and won't be getting anything significant in return. Hernandez was designated for assignment last month after he lost out to Yorvit Torrealba for a spot on the Opening Day roster. He should be an upgrade over Tim Federowicz as the Dodgers' backup catcher.

Rockies designated C Ramon Hernandez for assignment.
He lost out to Yorvit Torrealba for the right to back up Wilin Rosario. The Rockies will try to trade Hernandez and shouldn't have much trouble finding a taker as long as they are willing to eat most of his salary. He's still very capable of being someone's backup.

It's the first time he's run since a left hamstring strain forced him to the disabled list earlier this month. Ramirez is being brought along slowly, but it appears that he has a shot to return closer to the short end of his 4-6 week timetable.

An MRI on Jerry Hairston Jr.'s knee has revealed tendinitis.
Hairston is on the DL with a left groin strain, but it appears that the knee might be a bigger issue at the moment. However, he still played in an extended spring training game Monday, so it appears that it's not a significant setback. He could still be ready to return before the end of the month.

He did so without discomfort, something he was unable to do over the weekend. Beckett will throw off the mound soon before testing out his groin by running. The Dodgers haven't set a timetable for his return, but early June seems likely if all goes well.

Dodgers transferred RHP Chad Billingsley from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for Scott Van Slyke on the 40-man roster. Billingsley had season-ending Tommy John surgery last month and will likely miss the early part of 2014.

"But he's going in the right direction," the skipper added. Elbert has made four rehab appearances, but it appears he's not terribly close to being activated from the disabled list.

Shawn Tolleson is scheduled to undergo surgery on his injured lower back on Thursday afternoon.
Tolleson was placed on the disabled list April 15 with a lower back strain and now needs surgery to repair the injury. He is expected to be sidelined for 3-5 months and could feasibly miss the rest of the season.
