A 37-year-old lefty killer, Choate has logged only 8 1/3 innings this year due to discretionary use. He's dutifully performed his role, allowing only one earned run over 16 appearances. Choate has six holds on the year and will earn plenty more pitching for the mighty Cardinals. May 26 - 3:19 AM

	6	Chris Carpenter D.L. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said that Chris Carpenter felt some back stiffness during a long bullpen session Sunday. It's not clear if Carpenter will have to scale back his throwing program, but he'll likely need a few more bullpen sessions before the Cardinals think about the possibility of a rehab assignment. While it once looked like the veteran right-hander could return in late June, sometime during the second half appears more realistic at this point. Jun 17

"The timetable is to be determined, but the good news is that it's not the shoulder or the elbow," general manager John Mozeliak said. "Hopefully, it's something that won't take too long.
