Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored in Monday's win over the Rangers.
Facing fellow countryman Yu Darvish, Ichiro produced RBI knocks in the first and third innings. The veteran hitter is now batting 5-for-7 against Darvish. Ichiro's overall numbers are still well below his career averages. But he has been consistently solid on a young and resurgent Mariners team.

Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4 to pace an abysmal Mariners offensive attack as they were shutout by Brandon Morrow and the Blue Jays on Saturday.
After an extremely disappointing 2011 season, Ichiro has started the new year off strong with a .293 average and nine RBI in the early going. He seems to have settled in nicely in the third slot in Eric Wedge’s lineup, and still provides plenty of value in fantasy leagues with his strong average and solid speed skills.

Ichiro Suzuki was 4-for-5 with an RBI single in a 3-1 win over the Athletics in 11 innings in Wednesday's season opener in Japan.
Not a bad homecoming. Ichiro had a pair of infield singles to go along with two solid singles up the middle. The M's new No. 3 hitter drove in Dustin Ackley for a valuable insurance run in the top of the 11th. Ken Griffey, Jr. (1990) is the only other Mariner to have a four-hit game in a season opener. The 38-year-old is coming off his worst season, but we wouldn't bet against him.

Ichiro Suzuki singled and ripped his second homer of the spring Wednesday against the White Sox.
That's two straight games with a home run, and Ichiro is now batting an even .400 this spring after multi-hit efforts three of the last four times out. We don't read much into spring stats, but it's a little comforting after last year's down season.

Miguel Olivo (groin) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
The Mariners' current plan calls for Olivo to catch Monday, DH Tuesday, and possibly rejoin the team on Thursday. The 33-year-old catcher has been on the disabled list since May 1 with a right groin strain. He was batting just .210/.229/.346 in 23 games prior to the injury.

Franklin Gutierrez (heel) is taking batting practice and doing light running, but he still needs more rehab work in Arizona before beginning a 20-day rehab assignment.
In other words, he's not close to rejoining the Mariners. Gutierrez began the season on the disabled list with a torn pectoral muscle, but the heel injury is the bigger issue right now. Manager Eric Wedge recently estimated that a return in late June is the "best-case scenario."

George Sherrill is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in early May.
He's out for the year and may just decide to call it quits. Sherrill hasn't pitched since the Mariners' Opening Day series in Japan. The veteran southpaw had a 3.00 ERA in 36 innings last year for the Braves and agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with Seattle in December. He lasted 1 1/3 innings. The Mariners will go with Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetke for left-handed relief in the short-term.
