The reliever said he respects the team's decision but thinks he can "pitch here today and get people out. That's just how I feel." It sounds like he won't join the Halos' bullpen until sometime next month.

Ryan Madson (elbow) struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Monday in his first rehab appearance with High-A Inland Empire.
Madson also notched the save. The veteran right-hander will likely pitch in another rehab game on Wednesday, but could be activated from the disabled list later this week. Ernesto Frieri will remain the closer for now, but Madson could work his way into the closer role down the line.

It's possible Ryan Madson (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list after a rehab appearance with High-A Inland Empire on Monday.
It's more likely that he'll make 2-3 rehab appearances, but Angels manager Mike Scioscia wouldn't rule out the possibility of just one. "You don't want a guy down there wasting bullets if he's ready," Scioscia said. "He does need a little work, but he doesn't need to be stretched out to 30 pitches." Madson threw 19 pitches in an extended spring training game Saturday, hitting 94 mph on the radar gun. He'll be eased into high-leverage situations once activated but is a good roster stash for potential saves down the line.

Madson will face hitters in extended spring training on Thursday and Saturday. Assuming that goes well, he'll then head to High-A Inland Empire for rehab appearances on Monday and Wednesday. If he doesn't have any setbacks between now and then, it sounds like he'll be in the Angels' bullpen for their May 16-19 series against the White Sox. Expect Madson to be eased into late-inning situations.

Peter Bourjos (hamstring) continues to receive treatment in Arizona, and will rejoin the team when they return to Anaheim on Monday.
Even the most optimistic of time frames have Bourjos returning to the lineup at the end of May or beginning of June. Hamstring injuries can be extremely detrimental to players like Bourjos who rely so heavily on their speed, as they tend to linger and pose a high re-injury risk. J.B. Shuck will continue to see additional time in left field while Bourjos is sidelined.

Jered Weaver (elbow) threw four innings in a simulated game Friday and feels ready for a minor league rehab assignment.
Weaver threw a total of around 80 pitches between the simulated game and his bullpen session. With his extended layoff, he will need 2-3 rehab starts before he's cleared to rejoin the Angels' rotation. He's expected to return in the early part of June.

The hope is that one appearance will be enough for him to return from the disabled list Tuesday. Burnett has been sidelined since April 26 with left forearm irritation.

Jepsen has been sidelined since April 12 with a strained right shoulder, but resumed throwing from a mound last weekend and hasn't had any setbacks. He remains on track to return from the DL sometime later this month.

Angels transferred LHP Andrew Taylor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Taylor was diagnosed with a small tear in his labrum last month. While he won't need surgery, it's unclear how long he'll be sidelined. The 26-year-old posted a 4.27 ERA and 56/25 K/BB ratio over 59 innings between Double- and Triple-A last year.
