Jonathan Papelbon tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings Saturday in Arizona to earn his sixth save of 2013.
Papelbon got into some serious trouble in the bottom of the ninth when he allowed a single to Gerardo Parra and a double to Eric Chavez. But the right-hander struck out both Eric Hinske and A.J. Pollock swinging to protect the Phillies' two-run lead. Papelbon has a stellar 1.23 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 11/1 K/BB ratio in 14 2/3 innings this season.

Jonathan Papelbon worked a perfect inning against the Marlins on Friday, preserving a three-run lead to earn his fifth save of the season.
Papelbon has looked dominant in the early going of the 2013 season, compiling a 1.64 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 7/1 K/BB ratio over 11 innings of work. He remains one of the safest and most reliable ninth-inning options in all of baseball.

Jonathan Papelbon cruised through an easy tenth inning on Friday, preserving a 3-1 lead and notching his second save of the season.
Papelbon needed just seven pitches to dispatch of Austin Kearns, Rob Brantly and Adeiny Hechavarria in the tenth inning. He has now been perfect in each of his first two save opportunities, and remains one of the most dominant and most reliable closers in the league.

Papelbon struggled mightily at the beginning of the spring, but he's now allowed just one hit over 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his last six appearances. His ERA is all of the way down to 9.82!

Phillies placed C Carlos Ruiz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20, with a right hamstring strain.
Ruiz was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his hamstring and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. It's a tough blow for the Phillies, who just got Ruiz back from his suspension less than one month ago. Erik Kratz and Humberto Quintero will fill in behind the plate once again.

Phillies placed 2B Chase Utley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a right oblique strain.
General manager Ruben Amaro described the strain as "very mild," so, all things considered, it's pretty good news for the Phils. Amaro is hopeful that Utley will be ready when his two weeks are up, but it's possible he could be out as long as four weeks. Freddy Galvis will function as the primary second baseman while Utley is out. The team will make a corresponding move prior to Friday's game.

Phillies transferred RHP Roy Halladay from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for Michael Martinez on the 40-man roster. It won't have any impact on Halladay's timeline, as he had shoulder surgery earlier this month and is unlikely to make it back until late August at the earliest.

It will be the first time he's done so since going on the disabled list. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Lannan "is doing very well. He feels good." The left-hander could rejoin the rotation in a few weeks if all goes well.

Adams had been scheduled to make a rehab appearance next Monday, but evidently he's recovering a little quicker than expected. It's not clear if he'll appear in a minor league game over the weekend or just throw in the bullpen to get ready. Either way, Jonathan Papelbon will have his setup man back on Sunday.
