Marlins manager Mike Redmond plans to give Matt Diaz playing time in left field and at first base against left-handed pitching.
Diaz hasn't been nearly as good against southpaws in recent seasons, but the Marlins don't have many options. He's never started a game at first base in the majors but has played there recently at Triple-A. Diaz might be worth an add in deep NL-only leagues.

Marlins recalled OF Matt Diaz from Triple-A New Orleans.
Diaz batted just .222/.280/.333 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 118 plate appearances last season for the Braves. He is doubtful to make a big impact in Miami.

Matt Diaz is expected to be called up prior to Thursday's game.
Diaz has hit .341/.385/.459 with a couple homers at Triple-A for the Marlins. He figures to see some starts against left-handed pitching.

Marlins signed OF Matt Diaz to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Diaz was released by the Yankees last week, but it didn't take him long to find a job. Though he hasn't fared as well against them in recent seasons, Diaz is a career .324/.364/.498 hitter against left-handed pitching and could eventually wind up in a platoon with Juan Pierre in left field.

Logan Morrison (knee) is slated to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter on Monday.
Morrison has been playing in extended spring training games lately and hasn't had any setbacks with his surgically-repaired knee. With his 20-day rehab clock started on Monday, he'll be activated no later than early June as long as he doesn't have a setback.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Casey Kotchman (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment "in the next few days."
Kotchman is finally feeling improvement with his strained left hamstring. He was moved to the 60-day DL last week, though, so he won't be eligible to return until June.

Mahoney has been out since late April with a right hamstring strain. With Logan Morrison (knee) and Casey Kotchman (hamstring) also due back soon, Mahoney might be sent to Triple-A once healthy.

Chris Valaika underwent successful surgery on Friday, having two pins inserted into his wrist.
Valaika is expected to require 4-6 weeks of healing time before he's able to return to the Marlins. He had been virtually ineffective in his 22 games before the injury, hitting .219/.261/.344 with one homer and nine RBI.

That's what Marlins skipper Mike Redmond told reporters on Saturday afternoon. Stanton has been on the disabled list since April 30 with a severe right hamstring strain and is being limited currently to pool workouts. There is no timetable for his return to Miami.

It's not clear how long the Rule 5 pick will be out. Silverio missed the entire 2012 season after injuring his neck and back in an auto accident.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Thursday that Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) has been progressing with his long-toss program.
It's not clear when Eovaldi will be ready to throw from a mound, but he's moving in the right direction. The right-hander looks to be a little behind Henderson Alvarez, who should be ready to rejoin the Marlins' rotation in mid-May.
