Jonny Gomes has just four hits (over 21 at-bats) in May.

Gomes has lost playing time due to a sluggish start and Boston's plethora of corner players. Although he's batting just .194 with two homers, and has only one multi-hit game since Opening Day, Gomes has still posted a solid .346 OBP, nine points better than his career mark. Gomes' slugging percentage is more than 100 points beneath his career average, but the lefty-masher could heat up with the weather as long as he isn't asked to start against righties. Morales threw three innings in his last outing and will stretch it out to four innings Saturday. The lefty would have been activated by now had the Red Sox wanted him as a reliever, but they're stretching him out as a starter in case he's needed in that role. "Well, he'll likely get to four innings [on Saturday], and if we don't change course with his role, we'd like to get him to a minimum of five before we'd look to do something back here," manager John Farrell said. Bailey induced fly ball outs from each of the three batters he faced and then worked on his throws to first base for a few minutes. The right-hander is expected to make a rehab appearance on Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket before rejoining the Red Sox bullpen on Monday. He will take back Boston's ninth-inning gig once he is activated. May 16
	2	Joel Hanrahan D.L. Joel Hanrahan was upbeat Friday after he required Tommy John surgery in addition to flexor tendon surgery on Thursday. Hanrahan will be in a cast for ten days, but will start the rehab process shortly thereafter. Either way, he's looking at a 12-to-14 month timetable for his return. Hanrahan, who is a free agent after the season, is a long way away from having any tangible fantasy value. May 17
