Adam LaRoche hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs Friday in the win over the Padres.
LaRoche had a three-run shot in the fourth and then hit the second of back-to-back homers with Ryan Zimmerman in the sixth. He's now collected four homers in three games after totaling just three in his first 36 games.
May 18 - 1:38 AM
Adam LaRoche has reached base in 16 of his last 24 plate appearances.
LaRoche has a modest six-game hitting streak going and has picked up multiple hits in three of those contests, raising his average from .129 to .196. The first baseman hasn't homered since April 20, but he's in a much better place at the plate, so the power should come around. "It feels good," LaRoche said after Wednesday’s game. "Just being a little more patient overall, taking some walks, getting in some better hitter’s counts. For a week or two there, I felt like I was 1-2 every at-bat and in defensive mode. So getting back to seeing it again is nice."

Adam LaRoche is batting sixth for the Nationals on Sunday.
LaRoche had already been moved from cleanup to the No. 5 spot, and now he's even lower in the order. The slumping first baseman is hitless over his last 22 at-bats and has struck out 10 times over that stretch. Jayson Werth is batting cleanup Sunday, with Ian Desmond hitting in the fifth slot.

Adam LaRoche is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Cardinals.
LaRoche went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts on Tuesday and is hitting just .172 through 17 games, so Nationals manager Davey Johnson is giving him a breather. Tyler Moore will make the start at first base and bat cleanup against left-hander Jaime Garcia.

Nationals placed C Wilson Ramos on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
Ramos missed a couple weeks last month with the same injury. He doesn't think the strain is too bad, but it's possible the Nats will play it safe and hold him out longer this time around.

Sidelined
Danny Espinosa has been playing with a small fracture in his right wrist for the past month.
It's actually a loose bone chip in his hand. The injury stems from when he was hit by a pitch from Paul Maholm on April 14 and certainly explains his struggles. Espinosa hopes to avoid a trip to the disabled list and possible surgery, but the Nationals plan to rest him for a few days. Steve Lombardozzi will fill in at second base for the time being.

Jayson Werth
D.L.
Jayson Werth (hamstring) will not be ready for activation from the disabled list on Friday and could be sidelined for as much as two more weeks.
Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he received an "alarming" report on Werth Monday, which obviously doesn't sound good. The outfielder experienced a setback with his hamstring during a rehab game last week and has yet to return to game action. He was slated to see a specialist over the weekend and evidently didn't receive good news. Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore will continue to be the primary fill-ins for Werth.

Ross Detwiler (back) threw a bullpen session Saturday and reported feeling fine.
Detwiler was pulled from a start last week with lower back spasms and skipped a turn in the Nationals' rotation. That bit of rest did the trick, and he has been cleared to take the mound Tuesday against the Orioles.

Ryan Mattheus is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a fractured right hand.
Mattheus won't require surgery, but since the injury is to his pitching hand he can't do a whole lot while out. He'll have to build his arm strength back up once out of his cast.

Christian Garcia
D.L.
Christian Garcia (forearm) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend with Double-A Harrisburg.
Garcia has been shut down since the early part of spring training with a partial tendon tear in his right forearm, but he's ready to return to game action. The Nationals were planning to stretch him out as a starter prior to the injury, but he'll pitch in relief for the time being.
