Joey Gathright has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for amphetamines while in the minors.
Gathright posted a weak .299/.346/.347 batting line in 40 games this season with the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky. The 31-year-old speedster is currently a free agent and will begin serving out the punishment when he signs with a new organization.

Reds signed OF Joey Gathright to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Louisville.
The Reds purchased his contract from the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League. Gathright, 31, appeared in seven games with the Red Sox last year and has a .263/.327/.303 batting line in the majors. He'll serve as minor league depth.

Red Sox sent OF Joey Gathright outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Gathright hadn't played in the majors since 2009 prior to his promotion in September where he functioned primarily as a pinch-runner down the stretch. The move will allow him to become a free agent, though he'll likely have to settle for a spring training invite somewhere. The 30-year-old has a .263/.327/.303 career batting line over his seven seasons of major league service.

That's a bit earlier than Ludwick previously estimated. However, he still thinks that he will not be ready to return for another two months. Most fantasy owners can afford to move on at this point.

Chris Heisey (hamstring) resumed a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Monday and went 2-for-4 with two singles and a run scored.
Heisey served as the designated hitter. The 28-year-old aggravated his hamstring injury during his first attempt at a rehab assignment last month, so the Reds figures to be extra cautious this time around. Still, a return before the end of the month appears realistic if he can avoid setbacks.

Broxton has been idle since being placed on the disabled list June 14 with a right elbow flexor strain. "He’s been working on strengthening it," trainer Paul Lessard said Wednesday. "He finally has his full range of motion back. We wanted to get it flushed out." There is no timetable for the right-hander's return.
