Free agent right-hander Luke Hochevar (shoulder) is still battling symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome.
Hochevar is hoping to land with a team at some point this spring, but that probably won't happen until he is symptom-free. The 34-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in a major league game since July 2016 and he didn't pitch anywhere professionally in 2017 while recovering from thoracic outlet surgery. "We don’t know the timetable," Hochevar's agent Scott Boras said Tuesday. "But the doctors say [his shoulder] should come back. We just don’t know when."

Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com writes that while Luke Hochevar (thoracic outlet syndrome) could be a second half signing for someone, 2017 is "more than likely a wash for him."
Hochevar underwent surgery last August for thoracic outlet syndrome, but Flanagan notes that his procedure was "more complicated" than Kyle Zimmer, who had also had surgery last August, but managed to start the season on time. The 33-year-old is currently a free agent and we should hear more about a potential landing spot as his throwing program progresses.

According to Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com, the Royals remain interested in bringing back Luke Hochevar and Greg Holland.
Holland has received interest from a multitude of clubs and is believed to have several multi-year offers on the table. Hochevar, meanwhile, is in the process of recovering from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome and is the much more likely of the duo to return to the Royals' bullpen in 2017.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Tuesday that the club is interested in retaining Luke Hochevar.
Hochevar became a free agent after the Royals recently declined his $7 million mutual option for 2017, but it was an easy call after he underwent surgery in August for thoracic outlet syndrome. He's going to have to settle for a more modest deal, whether with the Royals or elsewhere.

Salvador Perez
10-Day DL
Royals manager Ned Yost said Friday that the hope is Salvador Perez (knee) will be activated sometime during next week's April 24-29 homestand.
Perez has already played four rehab games and Yost said the catcher feels "great." He's slated to serve as the designated hitter for Triple-A Omaha on Friday before catching back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday. That could be the last hurdle he needs to clear before being activated as soon as Tuesday. If he does return Tuesday, Perez will have made it back in four weeks after being given a 4-6 week timetable to recover from a torn MCL.

10-Day DL
Adalberto Mondesi (shoulder) was set to begin playing in extended spring training games Saturday.
Mondesi has been out since early March with a shoulder injury, which has really only publicly described as soreness, and the estimation is that he'll need around 30 at-bats before going on a rehab assignment. That's behind the original timetable, and everything seems to be progressing a little slower than first expected. When healthy, Mondesi is a potential fantasy option for cheap steals and should be given plenty of run with the rebuilding Royals.

Alex Gordon (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Gordon was placed on the DL with a labral tear in his left hip earlier this month but is already on the mend. Barring a setback, Gordon should be back in the Royals' lineup sometime next week. He was hitting just .174 before his injury.

Suspended
Royals outfielder Jorge Bonifacio has been suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Bonifacio tested positive for Boldenone, the steroid Jenrry Mejia and David Paulino, among others, have been popped for in recent years. He'll be out until at least June, as the suspension starts with the commence of the regular season. Before the suspension, Bonifacio was jockeying for a starting spot in the Royals outfield.

Karns is expected to be activated soon following last summer's thoracic outlet surgery. He'll work in relief initially but could eventually move into the rotation.

Jesse Hahn
60-Day DL
Jesse Hahn (elbow) hopes to resume throwing in a couple of weeks.
Hahn was placed on the 60-day disabled list Tuesday after being diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm. He could eventually require Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, but the 28-year-old right-hander will first try a rehab plan. "We’re just gonna treat it right now and see how it responds," Hahn said Tuesday. "Test it dynamically, so, you know, let it calm down and then get out there, start a throwing program and just take it from there, one step day by day."
