Phillies signed C Ryan Hanigan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that should Hanigan crack the Opening Day roster out of spring training, he will receive a base salary of $1.25 million, with an additional $375,000 possible in incentives based on starts made. Never a magician with the bat, Hanigan bottomed out in 2016, slashing a career-low .171/.230/.238 with just one homer and 14 RBI in 105 at-bats with the Red Sox. Bat aside, he remains a fine defensive backstop who should serve as a nice veteran presence in the Phillies organization. That being said, the 36-year-old doesn't figure to see a ton of major league at-bats at this stage of his career. Jan 25 - 4:21 PM
