Diamondbacks and LHP Tony Sipp avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.275 million contract.
It's a nice score for the 29-year-old left-hander, who posted a 4.42 ERA and 51/23 K/BB ratio across 55 innings in 2012 while earning close to the major league minimum. He was arbitration-eligible for the first time.

Diamondbacks acquired LHP Tony Sipp from the Indians in a three-team trade.
Though he posted a 4.42 ERA in 2012, Sipp has been a largely reliable reliever for the Indians over the last four seasons, compiling a 3.68 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out just over a batter per inning. He's held left-handed batters to a .215/.292/.414 line in his career, but he's not a specialist, as righties have hit just .209/.324/.403 off him. Sipp will help set up for J.J. Putz.

Tony Sipp was ejected from Tuesday's game against the White Sox in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Sipp was already leaving the game at the time, but he had some words for first base umpire Wally Bell, who called Alejandro De Aza safe on a bunt single on the previous play. He allowed two hits over one-third of an inning before being replaced by Chris Perez.

Indians manager Manny Acta said Vinnie Pestano and Tony Sipp will share the closer duties until Chris Perez returns from the bereavement list.
Perez left the team before Friday's game after the death of his grandmother. He's expected to be back with the team Sunday, but the bereavement list rules say a player must stay on the list for at least three days, so he won't be available until Monday. Sipp (2.41 ERA, 0.89 WHIP) and Pestano (1.52 ERA, 0.88 WHIP) have both been fantastic this season.

Aaron Hill was not cleared to resume activities Monday after a doctor determined that his left hand had not healed sufficiently.
"He's going to be waiting and try to get some more growth on that bone," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. Hill to this point has been limited to running and standing in on bullpen sessions to track pitches. It's unlikely that he'll be ready to return before June now.

Willie Bloomquist (oblique) will play in an extended spring training on Thursday.
He'll play in 1-2 extended spring games before beginning a rehab assignment if all goes well. Barring another setback, Bloomquist should be ready for activation before the end of the month.

Jason Kubel has been out of the starting lineup the past two games after aggravating his left quadriceps injury.
The injury forced him onto the disabled list earlier this season. "Just trying to get over that," Kubel said. "We decided to give it a few days rest." Kubel was batting .333/.375/.600 with two homers and six RBI before going down with the injury on April 9 and he's struggled mightily since, batting .167 since his activation. Arizona begins a three-game series Friday against Florida and Kubel's former Twins teammate Kevin Slowey. Cody Ross and A.J. Pollock will pick up additional at-bats if Kubel can't play.

The Diamondbacks have shifted Adam Eaton's (elbow) rehab assignment from Triple-A Reno to High-A Visalia.
Eaton is currently being limited to DH duties and the pitchers at Triple-A Reno will hit for the next week, so he had to find a new team to rehab with. Eaton is still a week or so away from manning center field. He's expected to rejoin the D'Backs near the end of May.

Daniel Hudson (elbow) threw 55 pitches over two innings in a live batting practice session on Monday.
"He looked good," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "He was overthrowing in the first inning but he came back in the second and had much better location. Overall it was good." Hudson will now begin throwing on a regular five-day cycle, mixing in a bullpen session in between each outing as he would do during the regular season. The D'Backs are hoping to get him back just before the All-Star break.

J.J. Putz will not require major elbow surgery.
Putz has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament, a strained flexor pronator and nerve irritation in his right elbow -- all of which can be addressed through rehab. He will try to return before the end of the 2013 season. Heath Bell has taken over Arizona's ninth-inning gig.
