Nationals acquired C Brian Jeroloman from the Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.
The Nats were looking for some catching depth at Triple-A with Jhonatan Solano being called up to replace the injured Wilson Ramos (hamstring). Jeroloman is a glove-only backstop that's batting .222/.481/.278 with no homers at the Triple-A level this season.

Pirates acquired C Brian Jeroloman from the Indians for cash considerations.
Jeroloman had spent his entire minor league career with the Blue Jays organization before being signed to a minor league deal by the Tribe in December. A career .240 minor league hitter over 1762 at-bats, he'll serve as organizational depth at the Triple-A level for the Pirates.

Indians signed C Brian Jeroloman to a minor league contract.
A former sixth-round pick, Jeroloman has yet to appear in a game in the majors and was demoted to the Jays' Double-A affiliate last season due to injury. He'll serve in an organizational depth role with the Indians in 2013.

Blue Jays sent C Brian Jeroloman outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Toronto cleared Jeroloman and Drew Carpenter from the 40-man roster Monday and now have exactly 40 players with that distinction. Jeroloman was jettisoned to make room for the returning Kelly Johnson. He was claimed back from the Pirates late last month and cleared waivers this time around. The 26-year-old backstop batted just .240/.335/.295 with two home runs and 26 RBI in 318 plate appearances this year at Triple-A.

Ramos missed a couple weeks last month with the same injury. He doesn't think the strain is too bad, but it's possible the Nats will play it safe and hold him out longer this time around.

Jayson Werth (hamstring) will not be ready for activation from the disabled list on Friday and could be sidelined for as much as two more weeks.
Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he received an "alarming" report on Werth Monday, which obviously doesn't sound good. The outfielder experienced a setback with his hamstring during a rehab game last week and has yet to return to game action. He was slated to see a specialist over the weekend and evidently didn't receive good news. Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore will continue to be the primary fill-ins for Werth.

Ross Detwiler reported improvement with his back Monday and hopes to be ready to make his next start.
Detwiler will play catch on Tuesday before throwing from a mound later in the week. With an off day on Thursday, the Nationals can delay Detwiler's next turn a few days. Zach Duke is making a spot start in his place on Monday.

Nationals placed RHP Ryan Mattheus on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20, with a fractured right hand.
Mattheus suffered the injury Sunday after he gave up five runs on four hits and two walks over one inning against the Padres and punched his locker in frustration. No word yet on how long he'll be sidelined, but he's obviously facing an extended absence. The Nationals are calling up Yunesky Maya and Fernando Abad for some bullpen insurance.

Christian Garcia (forearm) has been throwing from a mound and will begin incorporating curveballs on Thursday.
He'll then throw live batting practice after that before heading out on a rehab assignment, though it's not clear when he'll be ready for that. The Nats were planning on stretching Garcia out as a starter prior to his forearm injury, and they still might, but it depends on what the big club needs by the time the righty is healthy.
