Nationals signed 1B Mark Reynolds to a minor league contract.
Reynolds slugged 30 homers for the Rockies last year but his stats were obviously inflated by the hitter-friendly conditions at Coors Field. The 34-year-old's power is undeniable, but he's struck out in over 35 percent of his career at-bats and has always been a defensive liability. He'll likely begin his Nats tenure with Triple-A Syracuse.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Rockies "remain in contact" with free agent Mark Reynolds.
Of course they do. Despite Ryan McMahon having a strong spring and the pedigree of being a top prospect, the team just can't seem to quit the replacement-level Reynolds. He did hit 30 homers with 97 RBI for the Rox in 2017, and any Rockies player is worth considering for fantasy purposes given their home park, but it would be nice to see the team give McMahon a chance to hold it down at first base this year.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick is hearing that Mark Reynolds "is still a potential fit" with the Rockies.
At the moment the Rockies have youngster Ryan McMahon penciled in at first base, but they could ultimately decide to bring Reynolds back. The 34-year-old had to settle for a minor league contract last winter but is holding out for a guaranteed deal this time around after he slugged 30 homers in 2017. It's an understandable stance from Reynolds, but with plenty of other first base options on the market he might not get what he wants.

Jerry Crasnick on Twitter
Mark Reynolds told Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post that he is open to returning to the Rockies, but only on a guaranteed major league deal.
Reynolds signed a non-guaranteed minor league contract with the Rockies last winter and went on to tally 30 home runs and 97 RBI in 148 games. "I think I proved last year that I can produce and help a team," Reynolds said Tuesday. "I am looking to sign a major-league deal. … Things are different this year." The veteran free agent would be a nice complement to young Rockies first base prospect Ryan McMahon in 2018, but Colorado's front office might continue to slow-play this one. Reynolds' poor offensive splits away from Coors Field greatly limit his appeal to other teams with less-hitter-friendly home environments.

Suspended
Nationals catching prospect Raudy Read has been suspended 80 games without pay for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
Read, 23, tested positive for Boldenone, a drug that is on the list of banned PEDs under Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension will be effective at the beginning of the 2018 regular season. Read hit 17 homers with a .767 OPS for Double-A Harrisburg in 2017 and received a September callup to the Nationals after his minor league season was completed.

Daniel Murphy (knee) got five at-bats in a simulated game on Tuesday in extended spring training.
Murphy also took 35 ground balls, which is probably the bigger news. We still don't have a clear idea as to when the second baseman will return to the Washington lineup, but this is a step in the right direction.

10-Day DL
Nationals manager Dave Martinez revealed Monday that Brian Goodwin's left wrist was still sore after he took swings at the team's spring training complex.
Goodwin initially hurt his wrist nearly two weeks ago and was finally placed on the disabled list a week ago. Obviously, the wrist continues to heal more slowly than anticipated. Adam Eaton (ankle) is looking like a safe bet to be activated before Goodwin.

5
Shawn Kelley
10-Day DL
Nationals placed RHP Shawn Kelley on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
Kelly was removed from an appearance Monday night against the Giants due to irritation in the ulnar nerve in his right elbow. This could be an extended absence for the 33-year-old setup man, who has needed two Tommy John surgeries.

Joaquin Benoit
10-Day DL
Nationals placed RHP Joaquin Benoit on the 10-day disabled list with a right forearm strain.
Benoit made three appearances this spring before being shut down. It's unclear when he might be ready to join the Nats' bullpen. The 40-year-old signed a one-year, $1 million deal with Washington over the winter.

7
Matt Grace
10-Day DL
Nationals placed RHP Matt Grace on the 10-day disabled list with a left groin strain.
Grace was grappling with a left hip flexor Friday, but the team says it's a groin strain that sent him to the DL. Grace owns an ugly 5.06 ERA but a 0.94 WHIP and has 10 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings of work this year. He'll be replaced on the active roster by Trevor Gott.
