Used in the eighth, Brett Cecil worked a hitless inning against the Yankees on Thursday, striking out two.
Bizarrely, John Gibbons yanked Cecil from the closer's role before the game, then put him in with a lead in the eighth, even though the Yankees had all their righties due up (and the lefties set to bat in the ninth). It all worked out, but it makes one wonder why Gibbons keeps backing himself into corners like this; if Cecil was going to be available tonight, it would have made far more sense to use him against the lefties. Anyway, Cecil did look better tonight, hitting 90 mph on the gun consistently. After a couple of more outings like this, Gibbons might decide to put him back in the closer's role, before most likely changing his mind again 10 minutes later. Apr 9 - 10:17 PM
