Jeff Locke fired seven scoreless innings Sunday in the Pirates' victory over the Astros.
Locke looked excellent against the hapless Houston offense, yielding only three hits and two walks. He's now 4-1 with a cool 2.73 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 52 2/3 innings this season, but some regression should be expected. Locke will face off against the Brewers next.

Jeff Locke allowed three runs in six innings but took a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday.
Locke's outing qualified him for a quality start, the fourth such result in his last five starts. The southpaw struck out six batters, tying a season high, while walking just one, tying a season low. It's hard to see how the Pirates remove him from the rotation when James McDonald returns. Assuming he gets another turn, Locke will next face the Astros on Sunday.

Jeff Locke pitched six innings of one-run ball Thursday in a no-decision against the Mets.
Locke allowed three hits, walked three and struck out three. It's the fourth time in seven starts that he's allowed one or no runs. One could say he's a Locke to keep his rotation spot following Francisco Liriano's return.

Jeff Locke allowed three earned runs over five innings Saturday in the Pirates' loss to the Nationals.
Locke threw seven shutout innings against the Cardinals on April 28 and six scoreless against the Phillies on April 23. But he fell back down to earth against the Nats on Saturday afternoon. The 25-year-old lefty has a 3.21 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings this season. We would expect some more regression.

That's assuming he gets through bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Friday with no issues. McDonald is slated to go four innings and/or throw 65 pitches for Altoona, so he'll need at least one additional rehab start before being activated. He's not a given to rejoin the rotation once healthy.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Thursday that Charlie Morton (elbow, shoulder) will make three more minor league rehab starts.
Morton's rehab from Tommy John surgery was recently halted due to some shoulder soreness, but he returned to game action Thursday with Double-A Altoona and gave up two runs in four innings. If all goes well, he could join the Pirates' rotation in the early part of June.

Jeff Karstens (shoulder) will be re-evaluated next week after having his throwing program shut down on Friday due to pain in his right shoulder.
Karstens had been expected to return to the Pirates' rotation in early June, but now that timetable will certainly be pushed back. He has dealt with discomfort in his shoulder since early in the spring.
