Joe Thatcher earned his fifth hold by tossing two-thirds of a scoreless inning against the Cardinals on Monday night.

When healthy, the southpaw has been terrific for the Padres. Between 2009-2011, he posted a 2.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10.9 K/9 rate. This year he is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 10/1 K/BB rate over 21 appearances. As an effective LOOGY who calls PETCO home, Thatcher is a solid middle reliever in deeper NL-only formats. Alonso suffered a fractured hand last Friday and Padres general manager Josh Byrnes believes he could miss a month. While it's nice to see the optimism and strong desire to return, the Padres will likely play things safe. Before the injury, the 26-year-old was off to a terrific start, hitting .284/.335/.416 with six homers and 29 RBI through his first 54 games. Kyle Blanks and Jesus Guzman are likely to see the majority of the starts at first base until Alonso returns. Jun 7

Cabrera suffered the injury trying to steal second base on Sunday. He'll be eligible to return around the start of July and there's a chance he'll be ready by then. Alexi Amarista and Pedro Ciriaco should see playing time at shortstop when he's sidelined. Jun 19

Maybin has a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee and is expected to miss 6-10 weeks. The Padres have called up Jaff Decker to replace him on the active roster while Chris Denorfia and Will Venable should pick up the slack in center field. Jun 12

Luebke is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has been shut down since last month with renewed soreness in his elbow. He will try to resume a throwing program in 2-3 weeks. While the Padres aren't counting on anything from Luebke right now, they haven't completely ruled out a mid-August return. Jun 8
