Luebke was shut down in early March before resuming sessions of catch on April 1, and he had progressed to throwing off a mound before this latest setback. Obviously none of this bodes well for his mission to return to live major league games by the All-Star break.

Luebke had a minor setback in early March and was shut down from his throwing program, but he's slowly starting to build up his workload again. He's not sure if the time off will have an impact on his timeline, but the Padres were previously aiming for him to return around midseason.

Padres placed LHP Cory Luebke on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow injury.
Luebke is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and won't be available until around the All-Star break. He was recently shut down from his throwing program, but the Padres deemed it a minor setback.

Luebke is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and hasn't done anything the last two weeks. The Padres are calling the setback minor, so this isn't expected to affect his original 12-month timetable. Luebke is hoping to rejoin San Diego's rotation sometime around the All-Star break.

Suspended
Yasmani Grandal will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Tucson.
Grandal is still serving his 50-game suspension for a positive PED test, but he is allowed to begin a 10-game minor league assignment. The 24-year-old backstop is eligible to join the Padres on May 28 and may split playing time with Nick Hundley upon his return.

Logan Forsythe (foot) took batting practice on the field Thursday.
It's the first time he's done so since plantar fasciitis in his right foot sent him to the DL prior to the season. Forsythe also took ground balls before Thursday's game. "He's on the field doing baseball activities stuff, so he's on the way back," Padres manager Bud Black said. "He's on the mend." The team hasn't revealed a timetable for Forsythe, but he should be ready sometime next month if all goes well.

Maybin was recently cleared to resume hitting activities and hasn't had any setbacks. On the disabled list since April 17, he should be close to making his return. Maybin was hitting just .091/.167/.121 with no home runs prior to the injury but offers plenty of fantasy potential when healthy.

Clayton Richard (illness) will make a second rehab start with Triple-A Tucson.
Richard struck out eight over six innings of one-run ball Thursday for Tucson, but the Padres want him to have another tune-up. "He feels good about where he is right now, how his arm feels and how he feels physically in general, from the whole bad virus he contracted," manager Bud Black said. Assuming Richard feels fine in his next outing, he could rejoin the rotation as soon as next weekend.

Wieland, currently on the 60-day disabled list, is nine months removed from Tommy John surgery and will continued to be moved along slowly. If he can avoid setbacks, Wieland should be game-ready sometime after the All-Star break.
