Giancarlo Stanton rocketed a two-run homer and added a single and two runs scored in the United States' 6-3 World Baseball Classic win over the Dominican Republic on Saturday.
Stanton singled to lead off the third inning and came around to score the United States' first run, but it was his home run in the fourth that dropped jaws. The slugger hit a screamer over the left field wall and off the Western Metal Supply Co. Building at Petco Park that exited the yard in the blink of an eye. The dinger had an exit velocity of 117.3 mph, which was the fourth-hardest hit home run of the Statcast era. The United States has moved on the semifinals and will play Japan on Tuesday. The Netherlands and undefeated Puerto Rico will square off in the other semifinal contest. Mar 19 - 8:38 AM
