Jordan Zimmermann spun 7 2/3 innings of two-run ball in the Nationals' victory over the Dodgers on Monday.
He gave up nine hits but no walks, striking out five. A second-round pick of the Nats in 2007, Zimmerman owns a sparkling 7-1 record and 1.69 ERA. The must-start mixed leaguer will put both on the line Saturday in San Diego. Although a level of regression is certain going forward, we like his chances to continue dominating this weekend.

Jordan Zimmermann told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that he's not engaged in long-term talks with the Nationals.
"As far as I know there's nothing going on," the 26-year-old right-hander said Monday. Zimmermann, a second-round pick of the Nats in 2007, boasts an exceptional 1.59 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 34/9 K/BB ratio in 51 innings (seven starts) this season. He is arbitration-eligible in 2014 and 2015, so there's no real rush from either side.

Jordan Zimmermann allowed one run over seven innings, and the Nationals beat the Tigers 3-1 on Wednesday.
The right-hander was his usual stingy self Wednesday, allowing seven hits but limiting the potent Tigers offense to just one run. Zimmermann isn't flashy -- in fact, he may be the most underrated pitcher in baseball -- but he's consistently great, as evidenced by his 1.59 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. His next start will come Monday against the struggling Dodgers.

Tuesday night's game between the Tigers and Nationals has been postponed due to rain in the nation's capital.
Jordan Zimmermann was scheduled to pitch for the Nationals and Anibal Sanchez was on tap for the Tigers. The teams will presumably push both starters back one day.

Nationals placed C Wilson Ramos on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
Ramos missed a couple weeks last month with the same injury. He doesn't think the strain is too bad, but it's possible the Nats will play it safe and hold him out longer this time around.

Jayson Werth's return from the disabled list is expected to be delayed a few days after he felt some slight tightness in his right hamstring during his first rehab game with High-A Potomac Wednesday.
Werth, who had been slated to return Saturday, is visiting with the team’s specialist to get his hamstring examined. The Nationals don't seem too concerned about the minor setback, but they won't rush Werth back. "He wanted to go see another doctor in New York," manager Davey Johnson said. "Reason being, he felt a slight, little bit of tightness in his hamstring. He just wanted to check something out."

Nationals manager Davey Johnson confirmed Friday that Ross Detwiler will not make his scheduled start against the Giants on Monday due to a lower back injury.
Detwiler was required to leave his most recent start on Wednesday due to back spasms. No word yet on whether he'll require a trip to the disabled list. Craig Stammen is expected to replace Detwiler in the rotation while he's out.

Christian Garcia (forearm) has been throwing from a mound and will begin incorporating curveballs on Thursday.
He'll then throw live batting practice after that before heading out on a rehab assignment, though it's not clear when he'll be ready for that. The Nats were planning on stretching Garcia out as a starter prior to his forearm injury, and they still might, but it depends on what the big club needs by the time the righty is healthy.
