Andrew Cashner pitched eight innings of two-run ball Tuesday in the Padres' 3-2 victory over the Braves.
Cashner pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings against the Marlins last month, but this one tonight may have been his most impressive performance to date. All six hits he allowed were singles, he got 15 outs on the ground and he finished with five strikeouts and one walk. He's now 5-3 with a 3.52 ERA.

Andrew Cashner delivered a strong performance in Thursday’s no-decision against the Rockies, surrendering three runs on seven hits over his seven innings of work.
Cashner punched out four and walked two on the night. He departed with a 5-3 lead and in line to earn his fifth victory, but the Rockies rallied against the Padres bullpen in the eighth inning to negate that. The flame-throwing right-hander has been solid thus far, compiling a 3.68 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 46/19 K/BB ratio through his first 63 2/3 innings. He faces a tough assignment next time out though, as he’ll take on the Braves at home on Tuesday.

Andrew Cashner allowed four earned runs on nine hits over six innings Saturday in the Padres' victory at Arizona.
He struck out five and walked none. Cashner was eminently hittable this evening and gave up a two-run homer to Eric Chavez in the first, but San Diego's offense lit up the scoreboard and gifted the 26-year-old with his fourth win. He'll take a 3.38 ERA and 1.22 WHIP into a tasty date with the Mariners in PETCO on Thursday.

Andrew Cashner held the Nationals to three runs on seven hits over six-plus innings Sunday for his third win of the season.
He gave up just one walk and had six strikeouts. His lone mistake came on a two-run home run to Ryan Zimmerman in the fourth inning. Since converting to a starter, Cashner's fastball has averaged 94.8 mph, where he ranks second only to Stephen Strasburg. He's surrendered just four runs over his last 21 innings and remains a must-own in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Yonder Alonso (hand) said Friday that he hopes to return from the disabled list in three weeks.
Alonso suffered a fractured hand last Friday and Padres general manager Josh Byrnes believes he could miss a month. While it's nice to see the optimism and strong desire to return, the Padres will likely play things safe. Before the injury, the 26-year-old was off to a terrific start, hitting .284/.335/.416 with six homers and 29 RBI through his first 54 games. Kyle Blanks and Jesus Guzman are likely to see the majority of the starts at first base until Alonso returns.

Padres placed 2B Jedd Gyorko on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin.
Gyorko was injured during Sunday's game against the Rockies. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Logan Forsythe has been activated from the disabled list and should see plenty of time at second base in Gyorko's place, though Alexi Amarista also figures to be in the mix.

Everth Cabrera (hamstring) is not in the Padres' lineup Monday.
Cabrera tweaked his left hamstring during Sunday's game. The shortstop thinks he could play through the ailment, but the Padres will give him a few days off as a precaution. "I feel like I can play but I don't want to play at 50 percent," Cabrera said. Pedro Ciriaco is starting at shortstop Monday.

It's the third straight start he's missed due to a nagging left shoulder injury. The Padres are calling Quentin day-to-day for now, but they haven't ruled out the disabled list as a possibility. Kyle Blanks is starting in left field Monday.

Padres placed OF Cameron Maybin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 10, with a left knee strain.
Maybin has a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee and is expected to miss 6-10 weeks. The Padres have called up Jaff Decker to replace him on the active roster while Chris Denorfia and Will Venable should pick up the slack in center field.

Padres manager Bud Black said there's a "definite possibility" that Cory Luebke (elbow) won't pitch in 2013.
Luebke is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has been shut down since last month with renewed soreness in his elbow. He will try to resume a throwing program in 2-3 weeks. While the Padres aren't counting on anything from Luebke right now, they haven't completely ruled out a mid-August return.

It will be the first time he's done so since undergoing Tommy John surgery. Wieland is hoping to begin a rehab assignment by late June, with a return to the big league club coming after the All-Star break.

Kelly will undergo Tommy John surgery during the first week of April. Obviously, he won't be making any contribution this season.
