Justin Tasch and Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News report that the Mets talked to the Athletics about Danny Valencia prior to acquiring Kelly Johnson.
Johnson almost surely won't be a big needle-mover, so it's doubtful the acquisition of him would prevent the Mets from continuing to seek a bigger upgrade. Valencia would make a lot of sense for the Mets, especially with his ability to play both third and first base.
