Scott Diamond was hammered for six earned runs in 4 1/3 innings as the Twins lost to the Red Sox on Saturday.
It was the second straight outing in which he allowed six runs. Diamond showed some very positive signs in his first two starts of May, but he has quickly fallen back to earth. The left-hander now has a 4.99 ERA and 1.44 ERA in 39 2/3 innings this season and is not relevant outside of deep AL-only fantasy leagues.

Scott Diamond allowed six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Sunday as the Twins fell to the Orioles.
Diamond was brilliant last Tuesday night against the Red Sox, allowing only three hits (and no walks) over seven scoreless innings. But it all fell apart for him on Sunday afternoon at Target Field. The six-run pounding lifted his ERA from 3.03 all the way to 4.08.

Scott Diamond pitched seven scoreless innings as the Twins defeated the Red Sox 6-1 on Tuesday.
Diamond allowed just three hits and no walks over his seven innings to earn his third win of the year. The left-hander doesn't strike out a ton of batters, but he manages to get results. He's a much better real-life pitcher than fantasy pitcher, though, so he's best left for AL-only and only the deepest mixed leagues. His next turn will come Sunday against the Orioles.

Scott Diamond yielded two runs and four hits in six innings Wednesday in a win over the Tigers.
Diamond is 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA in four starts since coming off the disabled list. He should be worth using in AL-only leagues most weeks, but since he faces the Red Sox in Boston next time out, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bench him.

Darin Mastroianni will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle, and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
It was a very discouraging sign when Mastroianni, who was already progressing slowly in his recovery, was uncomfortable testing his ankle during light sprints on Wednesday. He shouldn't be expected to return to the Twins until after the All-Star break and can safely be dropped in deeper mixed formats.

Cole De Vries (forearm) will make his second rehab start with Double-A New Britain on Friday.
De Vries allowed two runs -- one earned -- while giving up six hits over four innings in his first rehab outing on Sunday. "He came through all right," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "He got to about 50 pitches or so. So he'll pitch May 10 for New Britain at home and we'll see how he does. We'll stretch him out again." De Vries is expected to be stretched out 100 pitches before becoming an option for the Twins' rotation.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
