Cardinals activated 1B Matt Adams from the 15-day disabled list.
Adams wound up missing a little over two weeks with a right oblique strain. He was batting .542 with three home runs and eight RBI in eight games before the injury, but the big first baseman still doesn't have direct path to regular playing time and remains a fringe option in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Adams is scheduled to spend the weekend on a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield before returning to the Cardinals' active roster Tuesday in Chicago. The young slugger has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 22 with a strained right oblique.

Matt Adams (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Springfield on Friday.
It was reported Monday that he'd begin the assignment Thursday, but apparently it will be a day later. Adams has been throwing and fielding ground balls since Saturday, and he's slowly adding swings to the mix. Barring a setback, he's expected to be activated next Tuesday when first eligible.

FOX Sports' Dan McLaughlin reported on Monday's broadcast that Matt Adams (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
Adams will play a few games at Memphis before being activated on May 7, the first day he's eligible. The first baseman hasn't played since April 21 due to a strained right oblique.

When it was initially revealed that Carpenter was going to attempt a comeback this season, the general assumption was that he would be aiming to join the St. Louis bullpen. But the veteran right-hander is stretching himself out in case a spot opens up in the Cardinals' starting rotation. The remarkable story continues.
