Cubs prospect outfielder Jorge Soler was benched for failing to run hard twice during Saturday’s game with High-A Daytona.
It hasn't been a good month for Soler, who recently received a five-game suspension after he charged the opposing dugout with a bat in his hand during a benches-clearing incident. While this particular transgression isn't out of the ordinary for players of any age, the Cubs hope the benching will send a message to the young outfielder. Soler, who signed a $30 million contract with the Cubs after defecting from Cuba, is hitting .276 (16-for-58) with two homers and a .785 OPS in 15 games this season. He is expected to be in Monday's lineup.

Cubs outfield prospect Jorge Soler is expected to return from his suspension Thursday.
Soler received a five-game suspension last week after he charged the opposing dugout with a bat in his hand during a benches-clearing incident at High-A Daytona. The 21-year-old did not hit a player with the bat, but the suspension sent a strong message that such aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Soler, who signed a nine-year, $30 million contract with the Cubs last June, was hitting .435 (10-for-23) with two homers and four RBI over six games with Daytona prior to the incident.

Cubs prospect Jorge Soler has been suspended five games for wielding a bat on Wednesday night during a benches-clearing incident at High-A Daytona.
Soler told Cubs management that he charged at the High-A Clearwater (Phillies) dugout only after hearing insults about his family. He didn't hit a player and did not take a swing. The 21-year-old Cuban defector will serve the five-game the punishment and return to action next week. He carries immense offensive potential.

Cubs president Theo Epstein said Thursday that he is waiting on word from the Florida State League about a potential suspension for prospect Jorge Soler.
Soler charged at the opposing dugout with a bat Wednesday during a game at High-A Daytona. He didn't hit anyone but the overly aggressive act is sure to draw some sort of punishment. The young Cuban defector told Epstein that players on the other team -- a High-A affiliate of the Phillies -- had been insulting his family.

He's also throwing from 120-130 feet and is expected to start swinging a bat early next week. Clevenger is on the 60-day DL and won't be eligible to return until mid-June. He should have no trouble being ready at that time, though he's not a given to return to the big club.

It was Baker's first time throwing since he was shut down near the end of spring training with a right elbow strain. The Cubs will know a lot more about his timetable once he starts to build up his workload.

Rafael Dolis has been called up to replace him in the bullpen. Camp owns an ugly 7.56 ERA and 12/6 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings of work this season.

Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday that Arodys Vizcaino (elbow) is a couple weeks away from appearing in a game.
He is presumably referring to an extended spring training game. Vizcaino, who will continue his rehab with the Cubs rather than at the club's spring training facility, is expected back around midseason.
