Carlos Correa singled and stole a base in the Astros loss to the Mets on Wednesday.
Correa, 18, won't be stealing bases at the major league level any time soon, but the Astros are willing to wait on the No. 1 overall pick in last June's draft. The shortstop has massive upside and should be rostered in long-term dynasty leagues.

Astros signed No. 1 overall pick SS Carlos Correa.
The Astros officially announced the signing during a press conference Thursday afternoon at Minute Maid Park. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the deal is worth $4.8 million. The slot value was $7.2 million, so it should give the Astros the proper breathing room to sign the rest of their picks. Correa, a shortstop from Puerto Rico, has already drawn lofty comparisons to the likes of Troy Tulowitzki and Alex Rodriguez. He's expected to report to extended spring training before beginning his pro career with the Gulf Coast League Astros.

Carlos Correa will be introduced to the media on Thursday afternoon at Minute Maid Park.
Correa agreed to a deal with the Astros less than 48 hours after they made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft. The 17-year-old shortstop will likely begin his professional career with the Astros' affiliate in the Gulf Coast League after spending a few weeks getting tuned up and meeting team personnel at extended spring training.

Astros owner Jim Crane said the team has come to a verbal agreement with No. 1 overall pick shortstop Carlos Correa.
Reports surfaced Tuesday that a deal was close, and it appears that it's a formality at this point. Correa is expected to get around $5 million which would be over $2 million under the assigned slot value. The Puerto Rican shortstop will likely be sent to extended spring training before beginning his pro career with the GCL Astros.

Maxwell had the protective cast removed from his fractured left hand on Tuesday and is ramping up his baseball activities slowly but surely. Barring a setback, he should be ready for activation before the end of the month.

Josh Fields (forearm) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with High-A Quad Cities.
Fields is scheduled to throw two innings. The Rule 5 pick appeared in two games with the Astros in early April prior to being placed on the disabled list. If all goes well, he could return to the big club sometime this month.

Sidelined
Paul Clemens left Monday's appearance with a right pinkie injury.
Clemens was struck by a comebacker and appeared to dislocate the finger, but the Astros' trainer popped it back in place and he stayed in to face one more batter. The club reconsidered after that, though, and decided to remove him. Clemens saved the bullpen with 5 1/3 scoreless relief frames after Erik Bedard lasted only 1/3 of an inning.

Alex White will undergo Tommy John surgery.
White showed diminished velocity this spring and was diagnosed with a strained pitching elbow, but the injury turned out to be worse than that. The young right-hander will obviously miss all of 2013 and might not be ready for the start of 2014.
