Reds optioned LHP Tony Cingrani to Triple-A Louisville.
The Reds needed to clear a rotation spot with Johnny Cueto returning from the disabled list Monday, so Cingrani was officially sent down. He was mostly excellent over his first six major league starts, posting a 3.27 ERA, nine walks and 41 strikeouts in 33 innings. Neftali Soto has been called up to replace Cingrani on the active roster, and Mike Leake will remain Cincinnati's fifth starter.

Tony Cingrani yielded three runs in five innings Friday in a no-decision against the Phillies.
Following his recent bout of shoulder soreness, Cingrani needed 100 pitches to complete the five frames. After posting a 1.50 ERA over his first three starts in the majors, the southpaw has allowed nine runs in 15 innings over his last three starts and has served up five homers in the process. We still like Cingrani for the long-term, but he could be headed back to the minors next week when Johnny Cueto (lat) returns from the disabled list.

Tony Cingrani's next start has been pushed back due to a sore pitching shoulder.
The soreness is said to be minor, but with Monday's off day, the Reds want to play it safe. It's possible they could skip over his turn entirely, depending on how he recovers. This certainly won't help Cingrani's case to remain in the rotation after Johnny Cueto returns.

Tony Cingrani said Monday that he "wouldn't be surprised" if he gets sent back to Triple-A Louisville.
The 23-year-old left-hander has registered a stellar 2.89 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 37/7 K/BB over 28 innings this season for the Reds, but Johnny Cueto (lat, oblique) is just about ready to return from the disabled list. It will either be Cingrani or Leake leaving the Cincy starting rotation to make room. "Whatever they tell me to do, I will do," Cingrani said. "Leake has been here for four years, and I wouldn't be surprised if I go back down."

Reds transferred OF Ryan Ludwick from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
It's merely a procedural move. Ludwick has been ruled out until early July with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

The Reds have determined that Chris Heisey's hamstring aggravation was not severe.
"It wasn’t horrendous," assistant general manager Bob Miller said. "He tweaked it." Heisey won't return until the next homestand, which runs from May 24-28, at the earliest. It's certainly possible his absence could stretch into June.

Manny Parra (pectoral) struck out two in a scoreless inning Monday in his first rehab appearance with Double-A Pensacola.
No word on the timeline for his return, but he'll likely make at least one more appearance before being activated. Parra has an 8.10 ERA and 7/3 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings prior to going down with a strained left pectoral muscle at the end of April.

Masset is still recovering from right shoulder surgery, and he was recently shut down after suffering a setback. The right-hander hasn't pitched since 2011.
