Brandon Maurer gave up a one-run lead in the ninth to take a blown save Saturday against the Astros.
It was a surprise that the Royals threw Maurer a save opportunity already and less of one that it didn't work out well. For what it's worth, neither hit against him was hit all that hard; there was a grounder through the right side and then a flare to shallow center. The tying run scored on a sac fly, and the best-hit ball of the inning ending the frame; Brian McCann laced a ball into the shift that was played in shallow right field and turned into an out. Maurer is a candidate to end up as a the Royals' closer, but we wouldn't expect him to get another save chance right away. Jun 23 - 11:27 PM
