Padres signed 2B Adam Buschini to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Buschini flamed out after being a fourth-round pick of the Phillies in 2009, but he resurfaced in independent ball and won the Australian Baseball League Triple Crown in 2012, hitting .363 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI in 42 games for the Canberra Cavalry. He also played 96 games last year for the Amarillo Sox of the American Association, batting .354 with 14 homers, 70 RBI and 34 steals.
