Eddie Butler could not maintain his consistency in Tuesday's loss to the Padres, surrendering five runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings.
The Rockies handed Butler a 3-0 lead after two innings and he initially ran with it, not allowing a baserunner through 3 2/3 innings. Any hope of a headline night was squashed when he surrendered back-to-back home runs to Matt Kemp and Brett Wallace in the fourth inning. Two more runs would come home in the sixth inning to knock Butler out of commission for good, with one more scoring on his line after he had left the contest. The 25-year-old right-hander was called up in late April to take the rotation slot of Jorge De La Rosa (groin). His results over 16 starts in 2015 were less than encouraging and the former top prospect makes for a dicey fantasy option outside of deep NL-only formats. A showdown with the Giants in San Francisco awaits him next time he toes the rubber. May 4 - 1:01 AM
