Pat Neshek owns a 2.81 ERA over 18 appearances.
Born and bred in Minnesota, Neshek has been a decent middle reliever since he was unceremoniously waived by the Twins prior to the 2011 season. Over the last two seasons in Oakland, he's posted a 2.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 27/14 K/BB ratio over 42 appearances.

Athletics and RHP Pat Neshek avoided arbitration Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year, $975,000 contract.
He could earn an additional $75,000 in incentives. Neshek, 32, registered a promising 1.37 ERA and 16/6 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings this past season for the A's. He will serve as a middle reliever for the club in 2013.

Pat Neshek will be on the Athletics' roster for the ALDS against the Tigers.
Neshek will be pitching with a very heavy heart, as his son died less than 24 hours after being born this week. The 32-year-old right-hander posted a 1.37 ERA and 16/6 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings over 24 relief appearances this season with the A's.

Pat Neshek will be unavailable for the final two games in order to be with his wife as she gives birth to their first child.
He'll be available for the postseason, though it's not a given that the A's would put him on the roster. Neshek holds a 1.37 ERA and 0.81 WHIP over 24 games with Oakland.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

An X-ray on Jed Lowrie's right foot came back clean.
Lowrie was injury Tuesday when he was hit by a Yu Darvish pitch. He won't play Wednesday but should be back in the lineup Friday following Thursday's off day.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) is expected to be added to the major league roster when his 20-day rehab window expires on Wednesday.
Nakajima is batting just .250 with a .313 on-base percentage at Triple-A Sacramento, but he's made strides defensively and has also showed he can play second and third base. His role with the big club figures to be limited.

Josh Reddick (wrist) will try taking batting practice on Friday.
If it goes well, he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Reddick discussed last week the possibility of surgery on his right wrist, but he's been able to take dry swings with no issues. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, it seems possible that he could be activated sometime next week.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
