The Kings owners, Joe and Gavin Maloof, continue to push for shorter guaranteed contracts in the NBA, citing Chris Webber's max deal in 2001 (seven years, $122 million) as an example of a franchise-killing contract.
Their point is taken, even though nobody forced the Kings to pay Webber $122 million. The Maloofs are not willing to sacrifice the season as they need momentum to rebuild the fan base and get a new arena built in Sacramento.

Chris Webber, still rehabbing his injured left knee, officially announced on Tuesday that he is retiring from the game of basketball.
Webber, a five-time All-Star, is hoping to stay involved with professional basketball and is interested in being a television commentator and analyst. He is remembered as one of the best passing big men of his era, a skill regularly on display during his best years as a member of the Sacramento Kings.

ESPN.com's Mark Stein reports that Chris Webber is about to announce his retirement.
Webber, now 35 years old, hoped to have a successful final run with Golden State, where his career began. Unfortunately, he never fully recovered from microfracture knee surgery. Webber averaged just 14 minutes in nine games with the Warriors this season.

Warriors center Chris Webber, who strained his knee on February 29th, is not doing any on-court rehabilitation and could miss the rest of the regular season.
"It gets more difficult the longer we go," coach Don Nelson said. "Now that we're down in the stretch drive, we'll probably have to play the way we've been playing (without Webber)." C-Webb wasn't providing fantasy value anyway, while owners of Al Harrington, Andris Biedrins and Mickael Pietrus should be pleased by this development.

Warriors GM Bob Myers expects Brandon Rush (torn ACL) to pick up his player option for next year.
Rush would have a hard time earning more than a minimum contract with incentives given that he's coming off of an ACL tear that kept him out for the season, so we'd guess Rush will return to the Warriors as well.

Andrew Bogut (ankle) revealed that the "mental and physical pain" he felt over "the last two or three weeks was getting worse and worse."
At this point, it's fair to question whether or not Bogut will ever be able to remain healthy for the duration of a full season. "I managed it every day. Every day was a battle, basically, after April," Bogut said. "Every day I had to come in early to get treatment, just to get it right just enough to get back on the court. My whole playoff campaign was that. Some days it worked and some days it didn't." Bogut did say that he's looking forward to using the offseason to get his "ankle right," but we've heard that from the big man previously. Fantasy owners should monitor Bogut's health closely.
