Kurt Warner has denied former Cardinals scout Dave Razzano's claim that he only chose to retire after being "lowballed" by the Cardinals.
"I did NOT retire due to anything money related!" Warner tweeted on Sunday. Warner left $11.5 million on the table by walking away after the 2009 season, and did so just two weeks after the Cardinals were eliminated by the Saints in the playoffs. It was also later reported the Cardinals gave him the "Brett Favre treatment," begging him to return in the weeks leading up to the 2010 season. The Cardinals have a history of being cheap, but the circumstantial evidence suggests it wasn't a factor here.

Former NFL scout Dave Razzano says he's been told by Kurt Warner's "people" that Warner wanted to play in 2010, but opted to retire after being "lowballed" by the Cardinals.
If true, it's stunning considering the Cardinals ended up going with human incompletion machine Derek Anderson at quarterback to begin 2010. Seeing as Razzano is willing to say he heard it from Warner's own camp as opposed to a nameless source, it's a pretty credible report. Maybe the Cardinals franchise hasn't actually changed that much after all.

Adam Schefter reported on ESPN's
Sunday Morning Countdown
that multiple Cardinals players gave Kurt Warner the "Brett Favre treatment," calling and texting him to pressure him into coming back over the past month.
When Matt Leinart got benched a couple weeks back, Warner's agent even called to see if he had any interest in re-joining the Cardinals. Warner responded that the only form he was looking to get into was

form. He's at peace with his decision to walk away from football.

Kurt Warner recently insisted that he's "completely at peace" with retirement and "the itch [to play football] has not come back one bit."
That's about as direct as it gets. Desperate Dynasty leaguers still keeping a roster spot warm for Warner can give up the ghost. He's not coming back. Instead, he's weighing multiple offers to do reality TV shows in addition to the "strong possibility" of a movie based of his life story.

Coach Bruce Arians reiterated that the running back spot is open to competition.
Rashard Mendenhall may be the slight favorite as he had his best years under Arians in Pittsburgh and will be roughly 20 months removed from his ACL tear when Week 1 rolls around. But Ryan Williams, Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington will all be in the mix as well. "You really can't tell until the lights come on," Arians said. "Some were different from this morning's walkthrough to the afternoon practice. Until you turn the lights on, you really don't know about them."

Cardinals TE Jeff King is recovering from knee surgery, but could be ready to resume practicing by early June.
The blocking tight end is sitting out OTAs, but sounds like he'll be ready for training camp. He's likely recovering from a scope. A seven-year veteran, King graded out as the third-worst tight end in the league in Pro Football Focus' ratings last season.
